The X-Fi is a great card I can assure you, but its history hasn't been the best. When it first came out a lot of people had problems with it making hissing and popping noises with their speakers. Think the culprit was a bad optimization or something to do with the NF4 chipsets out at the time. The newer cards are problem free. Only issue I had with mine was drivers not installing well, but was easily fixed. I know Guardian's running Vista, dunno about sound card. Zoopy's another one on Vista, hopefully they'll drop in and say a few words.

That's not completely true. The problem is the nForce chipset itself, and SLI.
I've had this problem with almost all of my Asus nForce chipset motherboards be it nForce 4 or nForce 680i.
It's not the sound card, it's something with IRQs and latency on the motherboard. I've tested the Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Platinum, the Razer Barracude AC-1 and an HT Claro Plus+ and have had the same results of popping andr cracking on all three.
For the Creative and Vista drivers, I have Vista on my laptop and have never had a problem with the drivers for my Creative sound card. Will be installing Vista Home Premium this week on my desktop and all should be well, since I've had it on my laptop (Vista) I have not had a single crash since it's been installed compared to the crashes on XP Pro.
