performance issues

well I'm sure someone else has had a similar issue but before I play next weekend I want to find a fix for this issue so I'm just going to post. Well back when I first installed battlefield in November/December it ran well with all settings high aaX2. After a couple months it got sluggish so I took off aaX2. fast forward to august I ran with almost everything low except geometry, effects, and one other setting that escapes me. Now in a firefight or anything with multiple people my fps gets down to 15 and never goes over 40 if I'm running with nothing much in sight. Heres the odd part, this decay was gradual, but my other games run just as well as they did in December if not better from driver updates on my graphics cards. so any guesses/suggestions?

Re: performance issues

Thats kinda odd. Reinstall I guess, but have you done any general maintenance on your Windows OS install?

Chk your HD. Defrag it, clean it with spyware and adware cleaner, clean registry, uninstall everything you don't use, etc, etc. I noticed bf2142 likes to have a lot of HD room left. The less you have on your HD the happier 2142. This has been my experience anyway.

So you should install more stuff to get 2142 to work better? Time to download 300GB of porn!

On a more serious (and G-rated) note, this is a really good idea. I would recommend Ad-Aware by Lavasoft (free) and CCleaner (also free) as good cleanup utilities. Ad-Aware is very good about removing spyware, adware, and cookies, while CCleaner is good about removing unused links and registry entries. Both are also very user-friendly, and did I mention that they're free?
