Splash Screen Crash

I have had battlefield 2142 for a while now, but it only works sporadically. Sometimes once the level is loaded and join game appears and I click the initial image appears and it is hazy, all the flag icons are black, peoples names show up, and then it just crashes to a huge error message that says nv4_disp.dll not functioning properly. then I have to restart it. It does work sometimes, but there is no pattern to it.
My computer is:
AMD Athlon XP 2.2Ghz
512 RAM
plenty of hard drive space
nVidia GeForce 6600GT
128 RAM
all drivers are up to date
sound acceleration low
all video settings low

does anyone have something that could help me? thanks

Could be a heat issue as well. Are you overclocking your video card at all? And G--Man is right, you should invest in more ram, this game is memory hog.

I am running on Microsoft XP SP2, monitor is ok, I have defragged HD, video driver not corrupt, I am not allowed to touch BIOS (dad) , PB ok. I have really been thinking it might be ram. or even on the BF2142 support page it says the 6600GT is not supported.
