Widescreen Support is Available
Twas scouring the internet and found this: http://imk.cx/pc/widescreenfixer/
A program that allows 2142 to be played in widescreen mode. I'm not sure if everyone has found this, but it is working great for me and no problems so far. Widescreen Fixer v1.05 Copyright ©2007 David Rudie. All rights reserved. REGARDING PUNKBUSTER I have been communicating with EA and EvenBalance over the use of this program. I've gotten responses from both that say this program is allowed on PunkBuster-enabled servers. It's not any kind of official announcement and the use of it is subject to change. In other words, this program is OK to use for now. If anything changes regarding its usage, I will update here. UPDATES For all updates on any of my projects, please visit my news blog. Widescreen Gaming Forum is an excellent site regarding widescreen support in just about all games. Please join their forums and help promote proper widescreen in games. LICENSE This application uses the BSD license and a copy of the included Copyright LICENSE file can be found here for your viewing. ABOUT THIS PROJECT Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 do not support widescreen properly. You can use certain arguments when running the game that let you use a widescreen resolution, but it does not adjust the field of view (FOV) to match the resolution. Because of this issue, I decided to develop a program that will adjust the field of view for the aspect ratio of your monitor. NOTES * You will notice a slight change when you zoom in or out with weapons. * If you use Microsoft Windows Vista, you need to have either UAC disabled or run the program as administrator. SUPPORTED GAMES These games are currently supported: * Battlefield 2 v1.40 * Battlefield 2 v1.41 * Battlefield 2142 v1.10 * Battlefield 2142 v1.20 * Battlefield 2142 v1.25 USAGE Just extract the zip, place the program file anywhere you want and run it. You may start the program at any time, whether the game is already running or not. To use this program: 1. Select the game you will be playing. 2. Select the aspect ratio of your monitor. 3. Use the numpad * key to enable or disable the fix. Here's what the difference is: ![]() ![]() Enjoy -Skill

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
Looks good, i will have to try it, but i dont think i can get a good framerate at a widescreen res. Lags a fair bit at 1024x768... i will try it tonight.

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
I really don't like the stutter as the field of view corrects itself when you scope in and out.

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
Is this an advantage for someone with a widescreen? I thought the reason no widescreen support was included was to maintain parity. Can anyone post some comparison SS from the same point of view?
I am sure this may have implications for some competitive leagues.

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
Here are some ss I took today:
Widescreen On ![]() Widescreen Off ![]() Would this widescreen fix's advantages outweigh its disadvantages? The way I see it, the field of vision is certainly improved but there seems to be a decrease in vision "size".

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
yea, that is interesting, although that would really depend on the size of your monitor. Trust me, I started off playing on my 15" widescreen laptop monitor. I now have a 22" samsung, headshot are much, much, I just can't rely how much easier now!
EDIT: Seems to get some funky screen moving while using it. Have to test it out some more.

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
skill, are you using a widescreen monitor? It looks like the two ss you posted are in 5:4 aspect ratio, but the field of view has changed from like 90 degrees to 100 degrees arc.

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
I use a 1440x900 monitor w/ 16:10 aspect ratio. Seems the image host I used resized the image. I'll try a different host later today.

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
Okay, this is what I found:
Widescreen off: ![]() Widescreen on: ![]() Like mentioned before, the field of view corrects itself when zoomed in. Its annoying to say the least, if you swing around quickly the crosshairs jump back to the center. I don't think I will be using this much.

Re: Widescreen Support is Available
v1.11
The one in bold seems to be the big change. I've tried this out lately and it seems to be a lot better. Don't notice as much jumpyness anymore. Just one slight jump when switching to zoom. Because the zoom is now off you can turn the updating up to 1ms that stops a lot of the jumpyness. It is actually worth checking out now. I've been using it lately and haven't been thrown off by any noticable changes in gameplay.
