Hard Lock-up problems!

Alright, this has happened around 3 or 4 times during the past few weeks. After of approx. 20 minutes of gameplay, the game will lock up and weird static and screwed-up sounds play in my headset, requiring a whole reboot. I've never had this problem before and my install of 2142 is fresh with the latest non-beta patch.

I have to agree with G--Man. I have the exact same problem with my laptop at times. It usually happens in greater frequency as my computer's cooling systems (a tiny fan) gets clogged up with dust.

I also have some software that monitors the core temperature of my system (my computer tends to lock up around 105 degrees C, and tends to run around 98 degrees when playing graphics intensive games).

I never overclock, but since my video card is screwy at factory clock settings, I have to underclock the thing to make it work.

Yeouch. Can you provide us system specs on your machine, specifically what kind of video card you're running?

Re: Hard Lock-up problems!

Sounds like a mem-stick going bad. But if it happens to be overheating try opening up your case and clean the fans, dust and take off and apply new thermal grease under the fans. You can look anywhere online for a tutorial do this.

P.S. 98C WOW, lol mines at 42C on full load with my mem runnin at 1200 and 2 GTX's on SLI...water cooling helps tho =P...had to take the HD cage out of the case tho because of the MASSIVE 10.5" Graphics cards

Check to make sure it isn't your firewall blocking PnkbstrA.exe or PnkbstrB.exe or even BF2142.exe Some firewalls won't remember a program's access rights especially after a new patch has been applied.

Re: Hard Lock-up problems!

my money is on overheating....especially if you have to underclock the card to make it work.....I would say it's the vid card if I had to choose....let me guess you either run a BFG or a eVGA

Re: Hard Lock-up problems!

WOW!

I recently upgraded to a new rig. From AMD socket 939 DDR, too socket AM2 DDR2 dual core and i'm having this EXCACT problem exclusively on BF2142.

So if more of you are having it speak up! Cause it might just be some stupid master server thing or PB acting up.

Anyhow, i'll be setting up my old rig again to see if it has the same problem.

Did you optimize your dual-core at all? Every time I reinstall windows I forget to get the optimizer and I get mad when battlefield runs as if it on crack! Sometimes it just gets mushy looking.

Yeah i tried the optimizer and it didn't help.

I thought i solved it by trying another mobo, but it's the same. Only thing left is the processor and memory, and i have no errors running memtest and other games run fine. I'm gonna try the dual core optimizer again. BF is getting old i think.

Re: Hard Lock-up problems!

Got 2 gigs. I've tried running one and one stick, it's the same.

This looks like a dual core issue, gotta test some more though.

Re: Hard Lock-up problems!

Ok, i installed the dual core optimizer, processor driver and Microsoft dual core patch. This seems to be working, haven't locked up yet. Only the usual 2142 crashes, Dice really can't program stable games.

Re: Hard Lock-up problems!

i think i'm having similar problems. after a few minutes of playing, game play starts getting choppy and then it ends up freezing. i'm going to go check on temps in a bit. if the temps are abnormally high, i'll clean the computer and let you know how it goes.

my specs are athlon xp 3200 socket 939, 1gb RAM, geforce 7950gt.. and not overclocked...

edit: nvm, i rebooted and everything went back to normal...
