In-game advertising

Yall be happy to know that 2142 will be the first game in EA's lineup to offer in-game advertising. I guess paying for the game and leasing servers isnt enough anymore.

Re: In-game advertising

This is where the industry is going. I wouldn't be too hard on EA, specifically, about this.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

Re: In-game advertising

Some of the comments in the article were a bit rediculous.

I don't think we need to worry about being forced to drive the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile around the Battlefield. I think it's more likely that you'll go into a building and see a "Coke" or "Pepsi" can on the table rather than "BF2 Cola".

Billboards in the maps will be for various existing companies and more representative of reality than "Buy a new 6000 SUX at SUX Motors!". There might be a copy of Time magazine on the floor.

Who knows, who cares.

Re: In-game advertising

I think it just makes the game more real. Puts real objects into the game that would actually be in a theater of battle. But my question is, with this in game advertising is the price of the game gonna be cheaper or is it gonna keep going up?

Re: In-game advertising

prolly the same. If it wasnt for ads they might have to raise the price, which in turn would lower sales so thats the last thing they want to do. Then again theyll prolly never lower the price either.

Re: In-game advertising

I wonder how long it will be before we see signage saying things like "An Army of One" and "The Few, The Proud, the Marines". Or overt/covert political adverts for that manner. Perception Management must be a fascinating profession...

The hack potential of dynamic content could make things interesting, too. (Pictures of Fido? )

Shucks, look in one of the out-houses on one of the PoE maps and you will see a Playboy mag.

^ Haha, I saw that the other day. Pretty unexpected to say the least.

Re: In-game advertising

The new beta build has the advertising on the billboards. The billboards themselves were not in the last build.

Re: In-game advertising

Hopefully all advertisement objects will be fully destructible. Or maybe that will detract too much from following orders?

Take that Dell computer room!

I like the Playboy magazines in the POE2 out-houses

(for the articles, of course).

Re: In-game advertising

lol. Let's not forget that we've inserted our own advertising in Kilrogg's maps.

I don't mind billboards or "product placement", but yeah driving the weinermobile, after the first couple times, would not be cool.

I would like a price reduction though. I'd even put up with more placements for say $15 off the game.
