I Played Battlefield 3: 20 min of hands on awesomeness.

This year I was lucky enough to attend E3. First thing I did was get in line for Battlefield. Then I waited in line for two hours...

I did however gleam a bit of info that I thought I would share

    Kits:
Four kits similar to 2142: Assault Medic; Engineer; Recon; Support (Support now carries ammo)

Medic could not run with med kit out. worked almost like a grenade. you though it out then go back to gun.

Defib is no longer an "instant click." There is a charge time for the defib where you have to hold the button down for it to work. You can "pre-charge" the defib while running and then time it right for a quick revive.

Support can now "mount" their guns. One of the unlocks for support is a bi-pod. The bi-pod attaches to surfaces when zoomed in and give support a lot more accuracy. However when bi-bod is deployed, support cannot move, and must retract the bi-pod (zoom out) before they can move again.

    Squad size:
4 players, however when asked if that was the final size they said that there was still some internal debate going on about that. For the demo they were showing you were locked into squads of 4, but they said changes could still happen.

    Squad Spawning:
Squad member can only spawn on SL's (or team spawn points)
SL's however can spawn on any SM (or team spawn point)

    Commanders:
They are not ready to release any information at this time (This was there actual response when directly asked about commanders)

Aside from that the graphics looked great, and the animations were very smooth. I'm sure there are a few things i'm forgetting, and I will add them when I think of it. Until then. I will just say. If you have not pre-ordered yet, do it now. You will not be disappointed.

Ahhh, so THAT is the secret to your knowledge. Thanks for the info!

I think these are both welcome additions. If the medbox isn't going to heal you while holding it (like 2142), then there's not much of a point to "equipping" it. I also love the hold-to-revive function. This should apply a good amount of brakes to the medic train.

Did you notice any voip? And did you notice anything when it came to assigning objectives?

How about VOIP? was it up and running when you played it? I know that it will be used through the BF log thingy, but still..
It is nice to hear some hands on from a fellow TG member, makes the cynic in me less so.

+1 for attending E3 and waiting in line for two hours

Somebody we know and trust was there, this is great !

Is it like BF2 & BF2142, where the squad lead stays the SL, whether alive or dead, and squad mates cant spawn on Sl when they are dead and when SL leaves squad then a random person becomes SL ?

Or is it the SL role moves around the squad, ie when the SL dies, the SL role moves to an alive squad member ?

Do you mean that you can't run with medic box in your hand? Can you throw it like a grenade?

I want it to explode health to all players within its radius.

    I hope you can't throw C4 like in BC2.

I'm so late to the BC2 party I just figured out how to throw C4 last week (really)

This was discussed in another thread - the SL stays SL until they leave the squad.

Thank you for providing credible information in this swamp of speculations and wish-lists that is the BF3 forum :P

I mean from what I remember (I was on a bit of an adrenalin rush at the time) you could not run with it out. When you pushed the button to equip the med kit, you would just through a kit and then go back to whatever weapon you had equipped before.

Not sure... I believe the SL stays the SL dead or alive so if he is dead you cannot spawn on him. I did have a couple of times where I could not spawn on him because he was dead. However, I have no idea if the SL role changed or not. I never noticed the squad leader changing, but then again all the player names were just generic, so I may just not have noticed if it did. For the demo Squads were locked, there was no leaving or joining, so no idea on that part.

There was some form of voip, but I dont think it was in game. Everyone in the demo had headsets, and we could all talk to one another, but it was just an open mic, there was not even a push to talk. As I said, I do not believe this in game VOIP at all. That is not so say it will not be there, it just was not shown at E3.

A TG'er's opinion counts more than most. Cheers for the heads up, helped settle a lot of things! REALLY hope they go for 6 man squads. And Voip obviously!
