    Any tips for non-automatic shotguns?

I love the Saiga, and I love the USAS, but I can't help but feel I may be useful with the other shotguns as well.
So -- any advice or tips on them?

I suppose, what I'm most interested in is 1-shot headshot kills from a decent range. What is the furthest I can be from a healed person to one-shot headshot kill them with a shotgun? Which shotgun can you advise for that?

Alternatively, if they're meant to be used other than 1-shot kills ... explain your playstyle.

I would say run and gun ftw.. My experience even tho it's an short experience is that you need to get really, REALLY close to 1-shot kill the bad guy spraying his m60 all over you and after a while I got sick of it and started too knife instead of pull the trigger, hey same distance needed and the auto-aim-launcher knife doesn't need too be reloaded..

There is people out there that's rocking the 870 but I'm sure as hell not one of them:P But slugs and sexy ninja stealth should work just fine for you..

I haven't found that slugs are of a benefit unless you want to use the shotgun as a headshotting M-14. They decrease damage by a lot on the semi-auto shotties turning an almost guaranteed 2 hit kill into a 3+ (if you hit). They do 100 damage on the pump-actions if you're within 8-10 meters or so with a sharp falloff therafter (compared to the ~2 meter range from buckshot) but thats highly dependent on if you actually hit them with the single shot, frequently you'l die before you can pump and unload again.

hmm range wise Lyra and I were able to one shot each other (body shot at that) at a surprising distance, 15-20 meters if I remember correctly. They key was to use magnum and the slug upgrades to get the distance and power.

Reaper: The way i've seen the various damage charts go, the Saiga and USAS12 with slug shoot 39 damage point blank to 31 damage up to 42 meters (the range of the slug itself) This is in contrast to 16 damage x6 shrapnel for closerange. Pumpactions deal 100 damage up to ~10 meters (the charts are so small!) with a slug, or 16 damage x12 shrapnel.

well then my limited testing with Lyra has proved those charts wrong. We were at the B flag on the snow conquest map and Lyra was at one end of the sand bags on the road and I was about 3/4 the other way and we were one shotting each other with magnum slugs in both the N2000 and the 870.

I'll give the magnum/slug a go tonight.. Never used the slugs which may be why I suck with the shotguns in the retail..

870 (or really, any shotgun) with slugs + Magnum = 2 shot kills from quite a range away.

What everyone else has said: Magnum ammo and 12 gauge slugs. I think you will be suprised how far away you can eliminate someone. I have done this a few times and thought it was ridiculous.

Yeah. Everything except shotgun slugs range has been shrunken in BFBC2.

Do NOT miss. Under any circumstance, make your shots count. If you are going magnum/slug, you will have 4 shells available without reload and that may not be enough depending on the engagement. I personally love the pum-action shotguns but they do have serious disadvantages. Covering doorways or MCOM's is a great way to rack up kills with these shotguns

Re: Any tips for non-automatic shotguns?

Pump-action shotguns suck in normal mode. End of story.

Adding slugs to them makes them able to hit people on a different flag (sometimes as far as 40-50m) but you have to be standing absolutely still, and requires two shots to the head.

On Hardcore, however, they are like a hand cannon. Load the NS2000 or the SPAS with slugs and you can kill people literally across the map with it. Even without it, 2 body shots at 15m will still lay someone flat.

It feels like, if you're sniping someone with a shotgun, you're doing something wrong. If you're going to go that route, then pick a sniper rifle or a single-shot AR like Garand.
I want a 1-shot kill in CQ and ... unless I'm in hardcore, my impression so far is that it's not possible.

Re: Any tips for non-automatic shotguns?

Pump action shotguns in CQC are not effective. I don't believe even magnum ammo makes the 870 1-shot in CQC (excluding hardcore, maybe).

The only way to use non-automatic shotguns effectively is to use Slugs/Magnum and from a slight distance. Otherwise they are truly overshadowed by any of the autos.

Re: Any tips for non-automatic shotguns?

I played 870 with engi kit throughout the beta, and they've definitely been nerfed a bit. For example, take the two houses on Valdez 2B. I could come around the corner at the north house, and kill someone with one shotgun blast who was standing at the little alley between the two houses. Not so anymore. As of now, a 1HK for the 870 is maybe 2 meters outside knife range. I put the center of the circle on their throat usually.

You can still play with the pumps, but I find that unlike the autoshotties where you can spray lead as you run around, the pumps reward a mental game. So like I pop up and shoot a guy and duck behind cover....and he comes and chases me right into my strongest possible position for a pump shotgun. You have to create opportunities for yourself.

I wish I knew what the difference between the pump shotguns was. Are they just skins?
