So just brought home the two rigs from my good friend Matt. One of them is a MSI Windbox he bought as a temp rig to finish rendering a modeled building. The other one was a budget gaming rig I built for him.

As far as I know these are the specs for the Windbox:

Atom N270 1.6 GHz
512 MB DDR2
80 GB HDD
Samsung DVD Burner
802.11 b/g WiFi with built in antennae

Maybe turn this into a HTPC for my dad. Or it'll replace the crap PowerSpec my mom uses. Either way, loving how I can finally move some of these larger towers to SFF rigs since the rest of the family aren't very demanding users.

And for the budget gaming rig I built for him about a year ago:

2 GB G.Skill DDR2 800 RAM

80 GB HDD, SATA

Rosewill M-ATX Case (leaks every sound like it was made of loose leaf paper)

2 x 120mm Case Fans

So the gaming rig wouldn't boot and knowing he knows almost nothing about computers nor troubleshooting, I fixed in 5 minutes after running around the house looking for spare cables, a mouse, and keyboard. Anyways, reseated the single stick of RAM and it booted fine. He, of course, had all kinds of crap running and it bogged the whole system down. 15 minutes later, it froze after I accidentally clicked on IE.

Now it's time to find some thin but decent soundproofing material. That thing is about as noisy as my old rig. Plus I gotta figure out why the whole tower starts shaking when I rev up the front fan to max. Once that's done, will install Vista Business x64 on there (only key remaining). Then give it to my sister to replace my old, outdated, and almost-jet-engine sounding rig.

I was thinking foam for soundproofing the case. Anyone have any good suggestions or maybe knowledge on how to proceed?
