very interesting, DICE did not invent battlefield, they bought refraction games who had the battlefield concept and were working on the prototype

    Very good watch.

    However:

    BFBC2 is "perfection"

    Oh my, what a kneeslapper.

That encouraged me to browse the BC2 forums over there. What a train wreck. Pretty much every post is complaining about something(can't blame 'em really) and there is a meme I have never seen before. Almost every thread had "lalalalala" in it which apparently refers to DICE putting their hands over their ears and not listening to the PC player base when it comes to patches.

    nice find Silver,

I was a bit disappointed to hear a lead developer say if they knew what the Battlefield franchise would bring, he would rethink even working on it.

Interesting to hear that 2142 wasn't considered a success when it flourished here for a considerably long time (i'm not saying it's still not kicking, it just doesn't have the following it once did)

Well, you know, the game isn't Battlefield 3, is balanced more akin to instant-action gameplay (read: CoD:MW2) rather than specializations (more or less saying it isn't Battlefield 3, again), does have some questionable design decisions for being an entry of the Battlefield series, and of course, has things like the VoIP problems all working against it.

Add all that up and you're likely to get enthusiasts who are more or less extremely jaded to a game's developers and their forums.

I'd imagine 2142 ended up "lacking success" mostly because it came out only a year after Battlefield 2 (I remember some pretty lackluster reviews saying something along the lines of "Battlefield 2...with robots" or some such nonsense), pretty much at the height of when Electronic Arts was considered the "evil" video game company. Heck, even though I was a fan of Battlefield 2 at the time of 2142's release (though my interest was waning pretty heavily due to my inability to get ANY of the godforsaken expansion packs to actually work), I didn't even hear of 2142 until quite some time later when I had moved to other interests.

That, and my main irritation with BF2 from invincible jets basically being the deciding factor of whether or not your team could actually do anything successfully made me leery of trusting DICE to actually pull off balancing in a game populated with giant robotic war machines.

What a great find. I loved watching it. I must say though that I thought 2142 did much better than Vietnam...
