For the record, I'm one of those "don't own but have fired" folks in the poll. My wife's family shoots clay pigeons out on some farmland they own whenever a group gets together. I smoked 'em all, thanks to my Nintendo skillz.

I got some +rep for that post, LOLing and such. I feel the need to expound.
The above is actually true. When I first went shooting with my wife's family, I had never touched a firearm outside of things that use CO2 for projectile propulsion. I was handed a 12-gauge and told to point it at the flying things.
My first few shots were total misses. After my third miss, my brother-in-law comes over and tells me to aim just below the clay pigeon, so that the barrel would be lower than I had been shooting. Next shot, pigeon dust. Next ten, pigeon dust. They had me load a second shell (into the pump action gun) and sent two flying at once... pigeon dust *KA-CHOCK* pigeon dust.
Truly, every shot I owe to the hand-eye coordination video games gave me. It certainly wasn't experience firing a real gun or anything.
