I enjoyed the interview link. Kinda gives insight to why they do some things....hopefully we might actually get to play HC like the guy interviewing wants...Kinda like CSS:Source.....One life per round and none of this hokie pokie stuff!!!!!!

Yh, I know "realism" and "authenticity" is a big discussion topic at TG, so thought it was relevant, but it's also very educational in other ways too, and some of the points brought up by both guys are pretty thought-provoking.

I like how the dev mentioned Arma since alot of the stuff the reporter was not liking is different in Arma.

indeed, and the reporter too new about Arma and Operation Flashpoint, but the point he was making was about how the game was marketed as Realistic/Authentic, but that death and other such issues are not handled realistically/authentically.

I would assume that ArmA and games like it do get the purely technical aspects of combat fairly close to how they are in real life (bullet drop, tank armour and such, etc), but it's still not "real." Technical accuracy, something videogames can simulate, does not inherently equate to realism.

Well that's obvious, but there's a difference between that type of realism and marketing something as realistic an then making a game that's aesthetically realistic, but handles other issues (such as health and death) in a very arcadey manner, making it completely the opposite of realistic. There is no way to pu people in a completely realistic simulation VR world, but you can at least try to emulate the aspects of war in a realistic manner, within the confines of the video game interace, rather than brand a game as realistic and completely neglect gameplay that is simply "fun" and is certainly not realistic.
