Been a good 9 or so years since I sold my RF600RR, but as of last week, I'm back in the saddle again!

This photo was from this past weekend. Gandparents took the rug-rats, so me and Mrs.Six rode to the movies (prometheus - it was ok). She's on a 1985 Rebel 250, bobbed with a solo seat, swing-arm mounted rear-fender, drag bars, and a ratty, satin-black, rattle-canned tank.

Last week, I picked up the 1996 Vulcan 800 in the background. The Miami-Dolphins-Teal is repulsive, but I got it for a song off some guy on Craigslist. Anyway it's mechanically sound and won't look that way for long: I'm going to cut up in a similar old-school, bobbed style. On the to-do list: paint, solo seat, replace rear fender, 10" mini-apes, pipe-wrap, and white-walls (just gotta wait for that lotto ticket to hit) Should look something like this when all is said and done... though w/ mini-apes instead of dragbars.

July 9 Progress Update:

Tins off, ready to go under the scalpel:

Big, swoopy, frame-mounted, old-guy rear-fender:

Repurposing the front fender for old-school, cut, swing-arm-mounted, rear-fender duty:

Fabbed a new front-bracket out of some 2” galvanized framing strapping.

Three layers of black Plastidip applied.. probably put another three on for durability’s sake:

Next up: fab the rear fender brackets (have 4’ of 1/8”x3/4” aluminum stock that should do the job)

    07-12-2012 Update:

    - Tank prepped and plastidip'd
    - Rear fender shaped, prepped and PlastiDip'd
    - Rear fender supports designed and shaped

    Left to do:

    - Finish rear fender support (trim to length and paint)
    - Mask off tank and add tear-drop of high-gloss black. (black gloss on black matte... never seen it done, and never done it, but... hopefully it'll come out nearly as badass lookin as it does in my brain)
    - Mount the actual seat (the black one here is just a borrowed stand-in for mockups)
    - Wrap pipes
    - Smaller headlamp
    - Side-mount licence-plate and integrated tail/brake-light
    - LED running-lights/turn-signals

    07-19-2012 Update:

    - New bars installed with rerouted controls and internally wired electricals.
    - New seat installed

Santee Mini-Apes came in. Here I'm snaking the lengthened (by 8" or so), 5-conductor wire-harness internally through the bars.. . such a pain in the ass. (The right grip's harness was even harder with 9 wires.)

Spent another 6 bucks on aluminum stock at Home Depot. Using it to make a mounting point for the front of the new [old] seat that also came in:

Started with the Dremel, finishing w/ the bench grinder:

Excuse the workshop dust. This angle shows the black-on-black tank pretty well, along with the new [old] seat:

Really starting have that oldschool bobber vibe now... Nice clean lines on the bars, and minimalist the rest of the way back. Another day or so of buttoning back up and she'll be good to go!!
