Re: FS: Sony Playstation 3
The difference between 1st gen ps3 and the 2nd gen ones is that the 1st gen had the Emotion chipset (ps2's chipset) to play psone and ps2 games. The 2nd gen ps3s use emulation instead to cut costs. Sony says a majority of the old games can still be played on the ps3.

Negative. 2nd Gen PS3s do not play PS2 games AT ALL. Notice that your link only offers you Gen1 choices, and not the 40 gig Gen2?

Re: FS: Sony Playstation 3
the 80 gig ps3 was not 1st gen and has an emulator, the 40 gig one does not. However, the 40 gig ps3 can play psone games.

Hmmm... I sit corrected.
So this means I want a 60 gig for max PS2 compatability, huh?

Re: FS: Sony Playstation 3
well it really depends on your ps2 library and what ps2 games you think you could still possibly want. Yes, having the hardware backwards compatibility is ideal since you know every game will work but finding a new one will be difficult. 80% of ps2 games will work on the 80 gig ps3 or you could always just keep your ps2.

I actually don't have a PS2, I was just looking at the price of used PS2 games at Gamestop and thinking that it would be silly to not go with the console that can play those...
Oh, and Raej, I'm talking to the wife about it now.

Re: FS: Sony Playstation 3
I'm lookin to buy a PS3 pretty soon I think. Thought about a 360, but my best friend's has RRoD'd on him 3 times now. Don't wanna go through that crap.
I don't care about backwards compatability and all that mumbo jumbo as my PS2 still works fine.
Don't even care about the HD size since they are so easy to replace in the PS3.
I'd prefer to not spend more than 300 on one.

Re: FS: Sony Playstation 3
Buddy of mine just got the MGS4 bundle, and brought it over. Kind of thinking of buying one now as well. Had a lot of fun with Hot Shots golf and MGS4.
They had a special at Wal-Fart and BestBuy where if you got the bundle, you got a $100 gift card as well.
I would go with the MGS bundle because you get the new Dual Shock 3 controller, and it is supposed to play PS2 games I have heard. Plus, it has the 80 gig drive so is perfect to put linux on.
