Installation problems.
Hey everyone, I'm having problems getting Call of Duty 2 to install on my computer. I have a Dell XPS M1530 which runs Vista 32 bit. Sadly I have no idea if this problem is originating from the game disks or my computer. I own the retail version of the game and when it asks me to insert the 6th disc my computers disc drive doesn't recognize it is there. On top of that my computer's DVD/CD-ROM drive then ceases to function which requires a restart of my computer to get running again. I have no idea why this is happening as I do not get any error messages or anything of the sort. I hope this is a problem that can be fixed without getting a complete overhaul (which is very hard to do with a laptop).
Anyone have any idea what is possibly going on?

Re: Installation problems.
Try inserting the disc and exploring it to make sure the disk is readable. It sounds like a bad disk. I have 2 installed on 64bit Ultimate, no problems. Actually, I have the entire series.

Re: Installation problems.
Thanks for the quick response LpBronco. I've explored each disc and it appears that they are all readable. All my drivers are up to date as well. This is getting pretty frustrating. I hope that the problem doesn't lie with my computer, since I really don't think there is much that can be done with a laptop when it comes to replacing parts.

Quick update, it isn't just the 6th disc that it seems to mess up on. I just had it mess up on the 3rd disc as well. *shrug* I don't know, this is just weird.

Re: Installation problems.
Try cleaning the disc like you would a movie DVD and see it that helps.

Re: Installation problems.
I don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to laptops, but I thought of something that might be worth looking into. Check with your laptop manufacturer and/or the manufacturer of your DVD drive to see if they have released a firmware update for the drive. I had a similar problem to what you have described, Jetheren, with a different game and finding then installing an updated firmware fixed my problem.
I don't know if laptops are similar to desktop computers in the way the DVD drive is connected to the mainboard. If it is, pop open your case and make sure the data cable between the drive and the mainboard is connected solidly. I should warn you here, that touching something you shouldn't can cause damage to your laptop. So, only do this if you feel comfortable taking that risk. Otherwise, you could always call a friendly computer technician.
Hope this helps!

Re: Installation problems.
Thank you all for your help. I don't know how I did it, but I was able to get it installed. Though I'm pretty shocked at how much lag I'm getting in game. My system destroys CoD2s requirements, but not enough to cause lag due to my computer being too good. Anyone else seem to have a very odd amount of lag and know of ways they smoothed out their experience? It just seems that every time I round a corner into a firefight my game becomes a slideshow.

Update: Problems Solved!

Thanks again to everyone for helping me out. Some how some way I got the game to install and my problems with lag seem to have stemmed from me forgetting to update the game. Now that my game is updated I have been running it with no problems. Thanks everyone!
