Fellow Tactical Gamer in Need of Assistance...

The syptom is--The game starts fine but when I open up the server browser and try to connect to a server I double click as usual but nothing happens...the program hangs and doesn't connect. I've also tried highlighting the server I want then clicking connect to server down below.

Single player worked fine before and after the 1.3 patch and MP worked fine before I the patch too.

I didn't even know about the 1.3 patch It was only when I tried to connect with the TG server I received a message that said something like "you are not running the same version. Please updated to 1.3. I clicked exit and did a google to find a download source for 1.3...found it, downloaded it and when I clicked run it said "a current version of COD 2 is needed to use this patch" It looked to me like patch was not recognized my installed version of COD2. (All legit by the way)

The first time I tried to patch I still had COD2 open on the server browser so I thought that might have something to do with it...I closed the program, downloaded the patch again (this time I saved it) and then ran the patch again and this time successfully. But...now I can't connect to MP.

I'm hoping you have a quick fix but as I write this I bet the answer you send is to reinstall COD2 and then do a fresh patch...I was hoping to avoid that and hoped you had a quick fix.

Your thoughts?

thanks,
Grunt 70
Does anyone have any ideas for a fix?

Re: Fellow Tactical Gamer in Need of Assistance...

do you have punk buster turned on? Im not sure if it turns it off when you patch. Another option what Direct x are you running?

Have you tried a complete reinstall of the game?

Re: Fellow Tactical Gamer in Need of Assistance...

Well...I was impatient...I should've checked here first...but I've uninstalled the game and am just starting to reinstall the game now. I put disk one in, clicked install and got this error:

Executable 'G:\setup\rsrc\cod2.exe' had the following unrecoverable error: Couldn't find library MSVCR80.dll (required by C:\Progra~\Window~4\MpShHook.dll) Please ensure that it is installed

So...that doesn't sound good...I'm okay around this computer stuff but certainly no expert... Isn't a dll file something that comes as a part of Windows XP?...If so...does that mean I should put my xp disk in and run a repair?...Frankly if this is the only program affected by this I'd rather not mess with all that stuff as maybe doing a "repair" might make things worse...god knows it's happened to me before with computer related stuff.

Anyhow update in 20 minutes or so ...

PS...thanks for moving this post to the open forum Strag

Re: Fellow Tactical Gamer in Need of Assistance...

MSVCR80.dll is a runtime DLL. If you have WinXP, you should already have this DLL on your system. If you do a search for it on your hard drive, does it turn up in a folder that looks like this:

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a 1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_0de06acd

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like you got it working. Great! Looking forward to seeing you on our server.

Just out of curiosity, are you running any Norton products?

Grunt 70 and I ended up getting some late rounds in last night, along with WingnutJr from LMS. Some very good rounds in there; it looked like you got your CoD2 legs back pretty quickly, Grunt 70!

I found this site by searching for this error. But I've tried several times to install it and keep getting this same error. Once I installed it by going to my disk drive, and clicking the setup.exe on the COD2 disk, but once I tried to play, I got the same error. Could someone please help me with this so I can get the game installed?

Can I install these without the game being on my comp? Because right now I can't even get the game to start installing without getting that error. And what is punkbuster?
