Good Book(s)!
If anyone is looking for a good book to read, I highly recommend US Infantry Weapons in Combat: Personal Experiences from World War II and Korea, by Mark Goodwin. I'm only about halfway through it, and I already give it two thumbs up.

This book is about the various US infantry weapons used during WWII and Korea, as told from the perspectives of the men who used them. Their generation is leaving us, so it's great to read the thoughts and opinions of these fine men.

Re: Good Book!
If any of you guys liked the movie "Black Hawk Down" I would recommend the following:
Black Hawk Down - By: Mark Bowden
The Battle Of Mogadishu - By: Matt Eversmann and Dan Schilling
In The Company Of Heroes - By: Michael Durant
The one by Bowden was what the movie was based off of. Please mind that it was Hollywood, and they did add/subtract/modify the battle.
The Battle Of Mogadishu is written by MSG Matt Eversmann (Then a SSG) and Dan Schilling. Eversmann lead a Chalk that day and he gives you first had account of the battle. There are also a couple other people who write in that book.
In The Company Of Heroes is all about Mike Durant, who had his Super 64 Blackhawk shot down that day. He talks about many things including the crash, Randy Shughat & Gary Gordon, his days in captivity, and his life after the battle.
All three of these are outstanding reads and I highly recommend them for fans of the real battle.

They Went To War Because Their Country Ordered Them To. But In The End They Didn't Fight For Their Country Or Their Flag, They Fought For Each Other."

Re: Good Book!
Read one and two on this list..>I'll have to track down 3.
In that vein I'll post some Military titles I've enjoyed (fiction & non fiction). These are in random order as they come to mind.
Wild Blue
Pegasus Bridge
Thin Red Line
The Longest Day
The Battle of The Hurtgen Forest
A Bridge Too Far
Guadalcanal Diary
Flags of our Fathers
Flyboys
The Killer Angels (Civil War)
I could dredge up my memory a bit more but these are all good ones for a start.
We could start a movie thread too but I'll leave that up to someone else...I do want to report an outstanding documentary I got from Netflix recently--Memphis Belle. I got this a few weeks back and the soundtrack had been done completely over to good effect. The air combat footage in a B17 over Europe is chilling.|TG-1st|Grunt

Re: Good Book!
Since we're discussing various titles, I'd like to add this one:
Soldat: Reflections of a German Soldier, 1936-1949, by Siegfried Knappe. It's an amazing story.

Re: Good Book(s)!
World War II by H.P. Willmott, Robin Cross, and Charles Messenger
this book is huge but very informative. It has almost every little dietail about pre, during, and post ww2. It is like a entire college curriculem in one big book. Highly recommended if you like WW2.
