In Game VOIP

Hey all,

More than a couple of you have posted in various threads about your frustration regarding lack of in game Comms...I thought the subject warrented its own thread and so I'm inviting dialogue on the issue here.

For me, in game comms make or break this game. Without proper use communication this game breaks down into little more than individual killing with no cohesion or tactics. Of course this is not what we are aiming at for the TG COD4 server. We are looking to raise the bar on teamwork for this title and truly create a unique server known far and wide for it.

TG'ers Unite--Take the lead on communications. Use your mic and use it alot. Use it not only to report enemy but also to remind the team to use their own mics. Say it over and over again if you have to....say it every round if you have to... but keep saying it over and over again until people do respond the way we want them too. It's not just a job for admins its a job for all TGers.

I'm not calling anyone out here... I'm guilty myself of falling into silent mode too many times. When you join the server and comms are non existent say somthing about it.

The point of my post is this--The bottom line is this is not just an admin problem. All of us as Tactical Gamers have a direct and powerful impact on the gameplay. If enough TGers repeat themselves over and over again about voip than people will talk. Take a leadership role and take it often and I'm not just talking about in game tactics or action here. As I recall this is exactly how the issue was dealt with in 2005, as TG struggled with the largest influx of new players in it's long history.

And please remember -- we are only a few weeks out from launch. The TG COD4 servers and player base are new and it will take some time for what we want as a whole to evolve. We had the same issues with our COD2 server when it came online but eventually our server became a place to find consistently good gameplay and I think it will take some time for the COD 4 server as well.

It'll also take a heavy admin presence that is actually on the server. Idling on TS is nice but it's distant and the admin can't properly communicate with the player. It isn't impossible to have a great server right now. I've already got a great server on my favourites list along with the TG servers. Set the bar high and the players will either adapt or leave. I don't like seeing the players being blamed when they're too used to Battlefield. This isn't a large scale battle. It's small maps and emergent teamwork.

I was very glad to see you in game last night. I had to quit early last night but I just wanted to point out that there has been a heavy admin presence in game. I've been in game just about everynight for the last couple of weeks and I know the same can be said for most of the admins. If you've come in game and and admin was not on its an anomaly not a regularity.

Last night I stepped up my effort both as a player and as an admin to effect the voip changes we all want. The rounds I played before leaving were tight and efficient. Time after time our team was coordinated and effective. We need people stepping up every day to keep this up...Good job last night everyone...lets keep it going.

It was a good experience last night to the point where admins didn't have to do anything. It was just understood how games should be played out. The problem I'm having is with the respawn server. It seems like a server that goes against TG values.

Re: In Game VOIP

Reading this may be helpful for some. I know it's pretty much the same SITREP method (?) that I was taught by Leejo back when he held his GRAW sessions.

Its little details like those that can win a game. I can think of a few situations that, had someone mentioned several contacts at bomb site X, the other folks defending the other bomb site could have easily swung around and flanked before the attacking team had a chance to plant, or set up a defense (say that without taking a breath, I dare you!)

I posted in the respawn server thread about my thoughts on it. The problem is that it's a respawn server. The action is too high all the time and it lessens the effect. Action should be frequent and in small doses.

Which are actually from the original Ghost Recon days and is how Leejo and I learned about it. It's an SOP that has sort of fallen to the wayside over the years.

Aha... that's where I remember you from Sarc.... the GhR days.

Our squad has always tried to follow those ol' SOP's.

Let's keep them alive.
