Here's my take on it, and the admins are free to slap me down if they feel it's a very wrong take. :P

Every map has a "mid line", which roughly translates to being halfway to the other team's starting point. From that mid line back to a team's spawn, I consider that respectively either Attacker or Defender territory. Now, due to various buildings and obstacles, the midline might not actually be a straight line, but you should definitely have a voice in the back of your head that tells you when you've crossed into the other team's "territory". If you have a hard time envisioning it still, think about where both teams would physically meet if they set off toward a particular spot at the same rate of movement- that's the mid line.

As a defender, I try my best not to cross that mid line until one of the previously described situations (bomb down/planted or defenders dead) happens. It shouldn't be, "let's see if we can get there before the other guys do," but rather, "I need to take care of my half of the map." Sometimes that even means only having to move like 5 steps. :P

Re: Tactical Gameplay!

Well, you need to take care of your bomb site objectives first and foremost. That means setting up a defense close to the objectives that allows coverage of the immediate chokes. Let the attackers come to you.

Here's a Bubba take on defenders. Bubba, I hope you don't mind me lifting this quote from the admin forum, but it's a simple straight forward explanation of the defender's role and couldn't be much clearer:

The op for should be getting a game plan together and figure out where they are going to go. The game needs to be slowed down instead of rushing all the time to the objective.

The game starts, defense rushes to take as much ground as possible, while the op for runs to the objective, this is NOT teamwork at all. each side need to slow down and set up a plan. Why rush to your death. It is like lone wolfing in mass.
Hope that helps.

Very nice!

Our practice on Sunday shoudve been just that but it still worked out in the end. What we did determine is if you constantly rush as the attackers you are going to either all die in mass or totally pull of a major victory. From our practice it was sheer determination and bullet spraying that saved our bacon.

I would like to see some true tactical play but some of these maps are geared entirely for run and gun and the quickest snap shooter will win. And those are the maps that should be eliminated from rotation. But thats the job of the senior staff to determine.

Oh, most definitely. I just think that there are a variety of ways to protect any particular choke point so that you don't run into being predictably at spot XYZ or such. My mid line reference is more of a "when do you know you've gone too far" guide. It also gives you fallback options that don't paint you into a corner in case things get too crazy. Obviously setting up in the middle of the map with no view of the bomb site routes (but still on your half) doesn't do you much good.
