'Call of Duty: World at War' (Wii/PS3/X360/PC) Revealed. (Thanks to Worthplaying for the news.)

"A few weeks back Activision confirmed a new installment in the Call of Duty franchise in the works, albeit not by Infinity War, but rather by Treyarch. Promising a "new theatre of war," Call of Duty 5, using the COD 4 engine, goes back to WWII but this time set in the Pacific (and Russia's advance into Berlin) according to UK magazine GamesTM. COD5 will be darker, scarier with enemies using different tactics (hiding in trees, sneaking, suicidal etc.) For the first time in the series the game will feature 4-player co-op while multiplayer includes vehicles, squad based elements, a return of COD4's perks, and support for the Wii zapper."

Hmmm, sounds interesting but why drop Infinity ward? They seem to be doing a good job. This sounds promising but if they introduce all this content into these small maps it's going to be to crowded I think.

I used to love the genre, but really... Do we need the 3-millionth WW2 game?

How often do you see a Pacific game vs. a European Theatre game? The only pacific game i have played is Medal of Honour:Pacific Assault. I think its good to see another.

although i dont like dropping IW, the reason behind it is so they have a full 2+ years to develop COD6 (the 2 developers switch back and forth) instead of just having 1 year and trying to rush the game.

That's something I didn't know, pretty clever.

Yh WWII has been done to death, but I don't mind WWII when they actually set it in scenario's you haven't played in other WWII games. It's playing the same battles again with different engines that gets boring.

I dont like those WW2 games. They are boreing i mean but i LOVE the idea that squads and vehicles can come just that they dont make the same mistake like in BF2 were you can throw the granades TO LONG.

while im pretty sick of WW2 (when cod2 came out i figured the genre was finished...i guess i was wrong), if they make it like cod4, itll be fun. create-a-class, perks, camo, attachments, challenges, etc. the only thing i see not happening is attachments.

The only thing that makes the Pacific theatre different from the European is, essentially, maps. Looks like they'll be tossing in a few new features, but when it comes down to it, it's still WW2. Same old weaponry, same old equipment, same old feel. It really feels to me that the WW2 genre is a horse that's been beat to death, turned into glue that was then used to make a piñata and hung up at a birthday party where all the kids are from the anger management wing of juvie hall.

Personally, I'd love to see an updated version of a game like Global Operations. It had maps from all over the world, and different scenarios like bombing, VIP escort/assassination and hostage rescue. It also had maps that came in several stages with multiple objectives. It would be nice to see that kind of creativeness again.

Re: call of duty 5 announced...

I don't really mind another WWII game as long as it plays well and has features that lend itself to tactical play with some fun thrown in. COD4 isn't ground breaking in that its a modern army fighting. There isn't really anything fresh about the weapons or the militarys involved. However because they did a great job on the multiplayer set up, graphics and fun in game, I like it.

If COD5 is just a re-hash of COD4 with new outfits I will be dissapointed regardless of the era.

Thankfully, I think that's part of the point of the "alternating developers" thing, it stops rehashes between games because of the different developers. It explains why COD2 and 4 has so much of the same fanbase that COD3 never had.

Re: call of duty 5 announced...

Knowing IW, the two years they have will not be enough and will result in a buggy, unfinished game when they do release it.

OMG Global Operations was an awesome game! I still play that from time to time. I love being able to buy weapons and attachments! That game was the best game i ever bought, back then that is.

It might be a rehash since they said it's going to be on the same engine. Plus the announcement mentions it will be released during Activision's current fiscal year, most likely around the holiday season. That's not enough time to develop anything groundbreaking.

KillDaddy, how long did it take IW to develop COD4? I hope it's not another 2 years until we see IW's next iteration.
