Re: Need input on Vista

There was allot of teething pains with vista 64 but most have been sorted now. Plus not all the problems were vista but other software and drivers not being well put together.

I built a system for a friend a few months ago with vista 64 and managed to get everything working fine. I had no problem finding drivers or freeware software to run on it. The only thing I had a problem was the drivers for the 8800GT. For some reason nVidia was having issues with vista that affected allot of users. The newest drivers I believe have fixed allot of the issues. Note though that in my case, after trying the 8800GT in three systems and both XP and Vista I had the same problems until I found the right driver so again not Vistas fault.

Re: Need input on Vista

I'm becoming sick of nVidia's drivers. Most of the crashes in vista are due to those crappy drivers. The ATI fanboys seem to have it made, when it comes to that.

I have been using 175.16 or 19 and, knock on wood, haven't had any problems in weeks. Amazing. Though this is on XP but as I said I was having the same problem regardless of OS.

The current ATi cards are enough to get my money this fall, thats for sure.

Re: Need input on Vista

My two 9600GTX overclocked editions in SLI mode will normally flicker my monitor and then die and restart themselves when I initially enter the game. I think this has something to do with Vista and SLI not working well with one another.

I have yet to even look for a cure for this but will soon.

Anyone get this?

Re: Need input on Vista

My single 8800gt does this every once-in-a-while as well..sometimes it "clicks" back on, sometimes I have to hit the "reset" button to reboot and try again.

Re: Need input on Vista

My friends system would freeze up at random with his 8800GT and Vista. However the same card did the same thing in two of my rigs both XP. RMA'd the card, same problem. I have tried several drivers and found that 175.16 or .19 has fixed it. I have had two instances over three weeks where the game froze up but I was able to alt tab out and in about 30 seconds get back in game without issue.

One thing you can try: Go to your manufacturer's website, and download the drivers from them. Most of the time, they won't be the latest drivers out there, but they're probably the most thoroughly tested for your specific cards.

So, if they're EVGA cards, get the drivers from EVGA's site -- not nvidia.com.

Agreed. I have an eVGA card and only use their drivers. It's not a huge difference (about 100 points on 3dMark 06), but I get better performance using manufacturer specific drivers.

Re: Need input on Vista

that's interesting that people with a grafics card 4 or 5 models above mine are having issues like that when i have none with the 8400GS i even installed the wrong drivers by accident the first time round and its fine... weird.

i got my video card from here (http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=VCD) the card was made under the name Zotac there's one more Zotac card there but its not the 8400GS that i bought almost a yr ago
