Longer preround planning time
A normal game on a map now has a 15 second wait time or something before we spawn.
The rushing that we complain about here is in my opinion usually needed on some maps, if not, the enemy gets set up and can cover all entrances pretty solid. Sitting in the spawn and discussing tactics then isn't always optimal.
So what if we put the timer to say 1 minute and thereby force people to plan more? We then also don't lose the possibility to rush and the possible edge that gives on some maps.
We have longer preround planning times on our battlefield series at TG and it works well there. You can discuss kits, movements, formations, people can volunteer for the bomb etc.
Does this make sense? Have you guys discussed this before? Maybe i'm trying to turn this game into something it's not? Am i nuts?

Re: Longer preround planning time
Agreed. We do it on CS:S too, but you already knew that, Superfast. :P It really does help a lot. That's the major thing I've noticed since I've started to play CoD. There seems to be a LOT of run-and-gun play. Seems to be barely any communication, and a lot of rushing. A longer pre-round timer would help this immensely.

Re: Longer preround planning time
i agree too with delta.
on CS:S we have a longer pre-round timer to utilize planing, sometimes this is not enough and we still have to wait for the plan to be finished.
i do believe this longer wait time is also beneficial for people who migrate in from other pubbie servers... it allows the admin team and other COD4 reg's WHO HAVE the TG tag on, to inform them of the rules and how we play here, i know as a SM i have "some" weight on how i want "my" servers play style to be played!!
i understand that this is not CS:S, it is like comparing apples to oranges but i think that it would benefit from this suggestion, i think that the presence of the admin team on COD4 is OUTSTANDING!!! every-time that there was even a hint of a problem ADMIN's where there to nip it in the bud so my hats to you guys and your getting a convert!!!

We at one time we had longer plan times. People got annoyed that they had to wait so long and some even left.

Re: Longer preround planning time
well then would that not weed out the non TG slackers??
i mean why would we want people around that will not help in the planing and in tactics? that is one level of deterrent for pubbie play people? if they cant wait less then a 1 (ONE!!!!) minute to complete a comprehensive tactic that the team/ bomb carrier comes up with, then they dont belong on our server's then IMO
you know you can mess around with the amount of time that we have to plan, css maps are more complicated then the ones on COD4, yet i see that COD4 maps require more teamwork and precision IMO

Re: Longer preround planning time
I'm with you on this one. If we want the mindless rushing to stop this is one of the measures to try i think. If not, we're just running a sort of twitch server with boundarie rules.
I've played both the battlefield series and CSS, and when pubs come on they ask: "What's with the long wait time?"
Then we reply: "It's for tactics and planning".
They reply: "Oh".
Then they understand where they are. It suddenly becomes a bit serious.
Also i don't know if you have a method of displaying rules like you have ingame in CSS where you can write MOTD and the rules come up. That would be awesome to learn the newcomers to the server fast without going to the forums.

Re: Longer preround planning time
we've been very successful on offense at times lately when we spend a minute or so in spawn (hidden) and laying out a plan. It's worked a good 90% of the time I think.

Ok, I forgot to ask in my prior post. This is server 2 correct? Because server 1 cannot be tweeked at all with the times. I can increase server 2 to 45 seconds if that will help.

Re: Longer preround planning time
Hazmat has the correct information.
Server 1 which is running Vanilla Hardcore. Does not allow the modification of many settings at all. Perhaps in the area of 15 settings can be set i.e. max players on server, maps, round length, round time, number of round per map, time to load into a map, time to prep at start of first round on a map, server name, Message of the Day...
Adding additional time to each round at it's beginning as it's played is impossible
There is not even a mod that can do this or perhaps wants to that I am aware of.
But there was one mod adding this in their next round of updates.
Hope to see you all soon.
Been getting things on the homefront back on track and really haven't had much time for anything else.

Re: Longer preround planning time
As best as can be at this point.
My home is almost a write-off. Trying to either build a house. But with the econ at it's current point. I am probably just going to buy another mobile home put that in and then build in about 2 years.
