PIRATE METAL?????? OMG They are doing this as a joke right?? I mean, this cant be serious music that people are actually buying and listening too???
I guess , what, INFANT METAL IS NEXT???? Like full force thrashing around drums pounding ninety miles to nothing and babies crying in the background. Makes just about as much sense as PIRATE METAL!!!!!

Re: Metal Music??
In my opinion death metal/scremo w/e you call it has less talent than doing even some of the easier stuff. While i admit that playing so fast your fingers cramp up (yingwee) takes a lot of talent, but those guys have professional studio writers and editors because of todays technology. But back in the 60-70's some of the worlds greatest guitar players were just being recognized. Jimmy Paige, Clapton, Hendrix etc etc. Those guys had talent! They were the founding fathers of blues, rock,a tiny bit of metal and insane guitar solos.
When i see what death metal bands and especially NORWEIGEN death metal bands are donig with their founding fathers work, its upsetting to see it being trashed by a bunch of punks.

Re: Metal Music??
I must be old, I know nothing about the bands in this whole post. The last metal band I knew was "Ozzy" Osbourne, do you consider meatloaf heavy metal????

Re: Metal Music??
Joe while I agree with you with most of that your post. I love the old school rock bands and stuff. My favorite band is Zepp lol. But you have to give these guys credit. Even though they are screaming they scream very well. You try doing what they do. But I will always love "the founding fathers" lol

Re: Metal Music??
I gurantee you that you will not find a more devout fan of the classics as me. Paige, Clapton, Hendrix, Townsend etc. are what made Rock n Roll what it is today. And god bless em for it. But as with all things there comes a natural progression, and to those guys such as , Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc. my hats off to them as well. Now we are seeing the progression from those guys in bands like Dragonforce etc. I just wish someone would come out NOW and make MUSIC like they did back in the early age of rock where songs had true meaning and the guitar licks werent just blistering fast but made you go " D A M M I T " that was awesome. (Insert Jimmy Paige there) Even bands like Motley Crue and Kiss, yes I am a HUGE BIG HAIR BAND FAN AS WELL, had meaning to their songs, it may have been corny meanings, but at least you could understand them and relate to them.
And yes, HAWK, you have to give these metal guys you are referring to credit for their ability to scream, I mean, after one or two songs of it, my voice goes to crap, how they do it for hours is beyond me. But you also have to ask yourself, why the screaming? If they have that kind of talent, why not use it in a more sensible way to where more people can actually relate to the music. It seems to me that people like SLIPKNOT has come to understand this, yes he still has the gutteral scream going , but he actually has a very nice voice and is starting to use it more and more, which i think is a good thing.
I love music of all kinds and listen to a wide variety of it all, mainly because I am jealous. I ALWAYS WANTED to be a musician, but never had the ability. Those that can play music , whatever type it may be, I am envious. Those like me who cant play what they want to play, we will be listening.

I love metal! Always have and always will. This is a link to a speed pickin' metal song I made awhile back. I play all instruments. I cannot pick any faster than this. Unfortunately I didn't put a good solo on this song. I based it more off of a band from 5 years ago.
Malmsteen is a jerk! Satriani, Vinnie Moore, Dream Theatre many other guitar based bands frequent my cd player often. I have a ton of songs I've made. I love guitar, bass and drums. Music is cool.

Re: Metal Music??
I'm deeply disturbed that the only people here listen to Nu-Metal and Metalcore and consider it good metal.
The only good band mentioned here has been Iron Maiden and Pantera.
Where is the Thrash Metal? Death Metal? Black Metal? Doom Metal? Melodic Death Metal?
Wheres bands like Morbid Angel, Death, Slayer, At the Gates, Megadeth, The Crown, Bathory, Burzum, Amon Amarth, Dark Funeral, Autopsy, I, Napalm Death, Sodom, Cannibal Corpse, Darkthrone, Exhumed, 1349, Diabolical Masquerade, Quo Vadis, Enslaved, Gorgoroth, Immortal, Marduk, Vreid, Emperor, Speed/Hate/Kill, Venom, Skinless, Sahg, Black Sabbth, Judas Iscariot, Legion Of The Damned, Sodom, Korpiklaani, Xasthur, Cryptopsy, Circle Of Dead Children, Belphegor, Carpathian Forest, Borknagar, Vader, and countless other great metal bands?
Someone has to listen to something that isn't played on the radio nor has little emo kids doing karate moves to.

Re: Metal Music??
Thing is about me I listen to every type of music. I love all genres. Now of course there are many metal bands I hate to death. But I grew up listening to country and love it and always will. But I love metal too. I am still a big fan of the old school rockers. Slipknot is one of my favorite bands and the lead singer's voice is incredible!! He can scream really well and then in an instant switch to a softer tone. I don't know why you say that the screamers can "use it in a more sensible way to where more people can actually relate to the music." I could probably give you 20 metal songs that have really deep meanings to them. Some of these bands write these songs because they are true stories in some cases. And you ask why the screaming???? It's called diversity. Would you really want just one genre of music played. Certain feelings just need to be screamed out. Plus what makes a song good to me is 1) good lyrics, a song could have the best sounding music ever and crappy lyrics and I would hate it, and 2) good sound, this is like....duh...... Oh Gunner btw the reason I like the pirate metal is cause I live in one of the oldest Atlantic port cities in America and pirates are a big part of our history.
