My Friday Night Experience on a Public "Tactical" Server

I normally don't post much as you can tell but just wanted share some food for thought:

Last night after the password went up (this thread has nothing to do with pw'ing the server), I took a break and tried some other mods (zombies/paintball)...got old after a couple matches. Took a look around and found an S/D server that was labeled "Tactical".

I hopped on, there was a 40 person limit to the server. The clan's admin had some scrolling rules very similar to the TG server (20secs on frags/helis/as and no wall spamming/blind nading). And they were trying to regulate as best as they could. I walked out of my spawn on Bog (yeah Bog) and 6 of us were sniped off the start on both ends of the game...it was so run and gun with no comm's involved that it made me quit after 5 or so rounds of giving it a shot. Players were ignoring the rules, nades were flying everywhere, walls being spamm'd, people were being absolutely disrespectful in chat (I still can't figure out how people write in books in chat and still play this)...I felt like I was playing Unreal Tournament from 2000 again for kills.

It was a horrendous experience to say the least for what I am looking for in an FPS-

Point being: We have it good. Very good. Especially from an admin perspective and regular player base. There is without a doubt in my own mind that this is the best tactical server out there that is enforced properly from a rules/admin perspective to force you to work as a team. I like pulling up the server ranks and seeing the Top 5 in total points and trying to chase my peers for those 4 spots (there is so much of a disparity in chasing House and Grieg that it makes me sick!)

I am sure I am preaching to the choir on this, but should you ever get frustrated, take a couple moments to think...maybe try another server and see what that's like. I think alot of us regular players have done this; its a good refresher once in a while and re-enforces your appreciation for the hard work that the community has put into it all to maintain its integrity-

Yep..the TG CoD4 servers are without a doubt the best available tactical experience online.

I also have tried other "tactical" servers and I saw the same stuff.......

"Incoming fire has the right of way."

Ah yes, an often repeated story for all of the games here at TG. I'm glad you found us.

TG has ruined me. I get homesick if i'm on another server, sort of hurts in my tummy

There is no better place for talking teamwork than here, none.

Re: My Friday Night Experience on a Public "Tactical" Server

And strangely enough, I still find myself getting banned on our servers!

I too have gone and found a few "Tactical Realism" servers and within 15 secs of match start the opposite team was already camped in the other team's spawn area. This happened every round and the server had admins on and didnt seem to care.

What makes this very difficult is that the game is supposed to be played like UT2k or Q4A but we try to make it into a BF2 or CS:S style of game. And sometimes the admins arent on the same sheet of music and for that I apologize.

Other than that it is very difficult to play anywhere else!

Re: My Friday Night Experience on a Public "Tactical" Server

    Bumb up goes this topic.

Because I live in a different time zone the times I am able to play COD the TG server is empty most of the time.
So I am pretty much convicted to other public servers if I wanna play COD.
Selecting a server out the server list that has tactical / realism in the server name is almost always a disappointment.

They all advertise the server rules and most of the time there are just 3.
    No bunny hopping
Nothing that goes boom in the first 20 seconds
    Always use your sights.

    And that is it..
On every server I visited the all run off after spawn, en the round ends in under 1 minute.
And oh dear if it might last longer they all start to fill the chat what comment about the slow play off who ever is still alive.

When I get the chance to pick up the bomb and I tell them over voice chat what I wanna do with it and who I want where..
They just run off to their same sniper/clay/run-gun spots..
If the bomb drops they just leave it be and go on with their kill hunting..

I don't mind those servers, but every time I wonder why the *** call your server a tactical / realism server..??
If I just want to kill hunt I go join a fee for all server or what ever and i can run and gun all I want.
I just don't get it with those servers.. what was the admin thinking when he made up the server name..??
HHmm let's put tactical/realism in the name.. then we all can run and gun, because that is the most realistic interpretation of the game.

Sorry for this rant, just had it with those servers and admins.
If any of you guys know a decent server that is in the Europe side of this world, that has a similar set of rules as TG servers have...then pass me some ip's
Hell even if there is just some communication and less run and gun it would be okay.

Re: My Friday Night Experience on a Public "Tactical" Server

I agree that TG has a great tactical experience...... A whole lot better than most other "tactical" servers.... but there are still other great "tactical" servers out there with just as quality of gameplay, you just have to look for them. Chances are that the other good servers are run by former TG members..... lol.

I personally can't stand "Tactical" servers with 30+ slots available..... gameplay deteriorates rapidly, and communication is almost non existent.

The admins and players (most of ya) here at TG are top notch! Keep leading the charge to a quality Tactical experience.

I enjoy playing on the TG servers...more fun....realistic in the sense that you don't have to unload your weapon on a guy to get a hit and then STILL get killed because he was hopping round and knifed you.

Re: My Friday Night Experience on a Public "Tactical" Server

Well I'll add a contra view.

Sympathise with you getting banned Hazzy, as you know I suffered from the same fate, a right pain in the rear that was.

Tg is great; the game play is why I became a SM initially this was through ArmA but I have tried BF & PR here too, oh and Falcon also.

Likewise Haz the ban forced me to search out other servers that were similar in their approach as TG.
My regular uk servers have some roe's but are not as stringent as here with the team play.

However as I have posted else where there are some excellent servers out there with very fierce roe's.

My Cod4 needs are now soley catered for by a Dutch server.
It is interesting to note that while they have a small Dutch clan contingent they also have regular players attending.
Most nights it's full @ 5-v-5 but it does make for very good missions.
They instantly boot any roe non-followers and will ban indefinately anybody who ignores their orders.
Sounds tuff but it does gaurantee good game play.

Basic roe's are no nade guns/bazookas no bunny hopping no ledging no lonewolfing no rushing. You break any of them you get one warning then it's goodbye as a wake up call or a ban if you have ignored their instruction a 2nd time.

Apart from that there are no other limits ie you can go where you want camp where you want just as you would in the real world.

I'm on most nights for some gun-fun with them.

Right now I'm looking @ getting into GRAW2 here @ TG and probably back into ArmA if I can sort my time shift problems being UK and TG being mainly US.

IT's refreshing to hear the compliments for a change in light of the recent admin bashing about our CoD4 servers.

I dont think its admin bashing i think its more players are confused as to what is going on. You've got admins who are in a disagreement about how things are to be done and handled, even when they themselves disagree with teh server rules. So trying to play the game by the rules and trying to keep the admins happy doesn't always happen.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.
