CoD4 vs. W@W
I would like to say that with real life I have been occupied and with what spare time I have I have been finishing all of the challenges with W@W.
Now, my open opinion on W@W is that this should have been released as a total conversion mod for CoD4. The Zombie mod is very entertaining but the Co-Op connection is hit or miss and playing with unknown people makes for some frustrating moments.
If you havent picked up W@W I'd recommend waiting till its around 19.99 - 29.99 since the single player is very short and the multi only brings a few new play styles to the overall community.
Once I get thru the holidays and more "stuff" with work I will be back in force on our CoD4 server...
But I can foresee Tuesday and Wednesdays nights being W@W server match times once the dust settles and the hoopla fades away from the title.
And lastly, I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and just want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
I agree with you hazmat, wow did I really just say that?
W@W is a passing fad, the color saturation is terrible, the shear lack of color, hello not everything in the 30-40’s was all grey scale and 16bit colors. The movement is arcadish at best; I really wish I had waited until this was at $19.99.

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
Yeah Haz & Red that's covers my stand point too.
Your technical points Red are the biggest bummer for me plus the sounds of the scuffing feet drive me nuts.
I did enjoy the story-line of the sp but you were a bit lead by the nose.
I have found myself continuing to play 4 over this as I've not really found any servers that are playing it tactically yet.
I'll be jumping on the tg server when I catch some people on it.
EDIT>>>??? One thing that did cause me to raise an eyebrow was the blurring with Fact/game ie news real footage then into the game.
I'm not too comfortable with real footage showing death, some times the actual incident seemed to be shown.
Ok I can serarate my gaming cause I know its me but when the game uses real news reel footage of death shootings I find that awkward/ uncomfortable to accept.
Maybe that's just me, maybe I'm taking this too seriously but I respect those that fought and died.
I suppose it's just where you draw the line, in my case it's before anything depicting scenes of a soldiers death, they should be kept for news reel footages if at all. The games stuff should be separate.
Oh God now I'm begining to wonder about linking game & war together.

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
I personally think CoD:WaW is a better game out of the box than CoD4. CoD4 is way more arcadish IMO. But the modded side (custom maps, OW) make it a whole lot better. I believe once the mods come out for CoD:WaW it will be even better than CoD4. I like modern weapons, but the gameplay just seems less run n gun in CoD:WaW straight out of the box.

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
I am glad I waited on picking this up. I was pretty overplayed on the whole WW2 concept.
I picked up Left 4 Dead instead and am very very happy that I chose to play that instead. Been playing with TG folks and its great. Arcadish but tactical -
I'm just waiting for the L4D custom maps to come out this month...thumbs up for me =)
Thanks for the write-up

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
I have to agree. I have always been a WWII fan. I like the weapons the countries involved etc. CoD4 was a filler between CoD 2 and WAw. I think the maps are alot better then in 4, and out of the box the game plays very well.
I guess people just like the more powerful moderns weapons the the ones from the old day.
Guess the game is not for everyone.Last edited by Bubba; 11-30-2008 at 10:29 PM.

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
Oh well. The games need to be slowed. We have played on a crouch only server and I have to tell you that between that and the weapons we have had some fantastic games. Run and gun is for pubbies, not for the mature player base we have here.
Here's the thing, get the game try it and then let us know how you feel.

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
I disagree. PPSH is just as fast if not faster than the guns in CoD4, yes it has less damage, but that's expected. The Thompson also flings rounds out just as fast as any of the guns in CoD4.
The thing that slows the game down is the kit load-outs. Depending on your weapon/class, you walk/run/sprint slower or faster depending on the weight. Seems a lot more realistic in that sense.
I can see if everyone had a bolt action, it would definitely slow the gameplay down, but overall it's just less of an arcade sim IMO.
The coop modes are a blast as well. That's just another selling point for me.Vir-Chew-All!!

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
I completely agree. I love the WW2 style of play. I love the sounds the guns and everything. Campaign mode is awesome, intense, and the game isn't too easy. It's challenging and the maps are better. I guess I'm just a military history kinda guy. Granted I love modern weapons but nothing beats the old school weapons. But when you go thru history and fight battles that actually happened. Of course you can't make it exactly like the real thing but hey I like it.

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
Its funny how the WWII weapons are thought weaker than the modern era but except for capacity its hard to beat the 30-06, 45 and 30 caliber rounds used by the American service men. In comparison the m-16 uses a basic .223 and is intended to maim rather than kill because it requires more effort to handle the wounded than the dead.
Sub-machine guns using the 9mm just don't stack up to the Thompson or the M2A1 carbine except that they are cheap to produce. (Not taking anything away from the H&K weapons)

Re: CoD4 vs. W@W
For me the gameplay is similar to COD4, just different graphics, maps, guns and names for stuff. How fast everything goes depends on maps, kit-loadouts and weapons, just like COD4.
