Re: Home Computer Work/Gaming Stations
Pretty simple and straight to the point. No pretty neon lights, or fancy boxes. Just one nice simple enclosure we call an iMac.
My older G5 iMac(left), and my kinda newer Intel iMac(right) running wind0ze.

BRAWR!
Sorry bout the glare, not exactly the right time of the day to take a picture.

Married.
And yes, there have been strong words and beatings.
Actually, thanx to the EVGA step-up program, and a careful method of selling off the old before it loses value; then spending a bit on new stuff, over time, it runs a lot less than you'd think.

Re: Home Computer Work/Gaming Stations
The wife just asked me if it wasn't time to build a new rig. I think she wants my current one. Every one in the family benefits when I get a new build. The wife gets my current one then someone in the family get her's so everybody benefits.
I think I will just upgrade my graphic card for right now.
Motherboard: EVGA 780i
Graphic Card: EVGA NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512
Monitor: Dell 2407WFP-HC
DVD: Philips SPD6104P SCSI DVD
Sound: Creative X-FI Audio
Power Supply: Corsair TX750W
CPU: E8400
Memory: Patriot 4G 2Gx2
Hard Drive: 500G
Case: Antec P182
OS: Windows Vista Home Preium 64

Re: Home Computer Work/Gaming Stations
I'm very happy with my new rig. See sig for specs. Was pulling well over 700fps last night on Server 2

Re: Home Computer Work/Gaming Stations
What on earth kind of resolution are you guys running at?
Tomshardware says a 4870 can get COD:WaW to hum along at ~100fps at 1280x1024, max settings. Lower, of course, when you turn on FSAA or AF.
700fps makes me think you guys are playing at 640x480 with no detail. What's the point?

Re: Home Computer Work/Gaming Stations
I have that same 1GB 4870 and I run at 1680 x 1050 with everything pretty much maxxed out and there are times when I will be over 500 fps..but that is mostly looking up at the sky or something like that...when you get into smoke and fire and all kinds of stuff blowing up, mine will drop in the 80's and 90's sometimes..
I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit with 8GB 1066mhz Corsair with a Q6600 @ 3.0ghz with an exceptionally fast RAID0 setup and no pagefile.

Yep, 1680x1050 here on a 22" Acer LCD screen. Card is overclocked even beyond what it came factory OC'd at. Lowest I've seen so far (with lots of explosions on screen) is around 120fps

Re: Home Computer Work/Gaming Stations
I let the automatic ATI software "autoclock" mine when I installed the card and built the machine..I have no idea what it is setting at or what the stock numbers were, but I have the fan set at 50% minimum at startup and it never kicks into high gear as far as I know..
This card has changed my mind about ATI, and I now shun NVIDIA for all of their shenanigans....even though I love my 2 8800GT's..

Re: Home Computer Work/Gaming Stations
OK..here is the junk room as of now..
The beige box is the AMD 710 tri-core with Win7 beta, the dell and green box are mostly folding@home and DVD rippers, and the big gamer rig is in the floor..
you can see my champ[ionship winning boat, a couple of my indoor planes and a couple outdoor planes, a crawler, in the floor is my 14 space rack full of servers that are not plugged in and above is a new 57" electric 3D Sukhoi Su-26 in the box from my sponsor..
It is a mess, it is mayhem, but it is MY little tiny bit of heaven..
