    Do I belong here?

    Hi folks.
I'm (obviously) quite new here and I'd like to make sure I'm in the right place.
The only game I play is COD4 on PS3. I'm not very good as I just started recently (rank 10, with five or six total hours of gameplay). The frustration I'm finding by playing online is ruining the game for me. Out of desperation, I ran a Google search to find a place I could go where like minded individuals hang out and play COD4. I ran across many places that seemed to be geared towards adult/mature oriented gameplay and this one seemed like it just had it's things in order a little better than the rest of them.
    Sooo... Here I am.

Here are my goals and pet peeves:
    - To play COD4 on PS3 without hearing distorted music through some punks microphone.
    - To not hear some dork sing into his headset.
    - To not hear some kids Mom in the background telling him to clean him room. Or, hear that same kid telling his buddy (online) about his new girlfriend....The whole while, he's kicking my butt. Repeatedly. That tends to annoy me. I do not have a headset/mic, so maybe I'm just jealous that I can't "go off" on them?

    But most importantly:
    - To play against people who are (roughly) equally skilled as I am. That would really be nice. Having to respawn a dozen times in a 10 minute game gets old.
Perusing the forum here, I've come to realize you guys (and gals) are MUCH more skilled than I. Slightly intimidating to say the least. Basically, I'd like to be part of an organized group of serious people in COD4. I'm willing to run "backup"...Somebody who isn't front and center in gameplay. I'm not asking to be the "point man" or anything. I'd prefer to spend 30 minutes in a single game and use maybe 10 rounds of ammunition and die once (or as little as possible given my amateur status) as opposed to using 300 rounds of ammo and dieing 15 times to get 15 kills. I think the Military guys call it the "spray and pray" method of firing a weapon? That just doesn't seem like much fun for me.

    So....
    #1 Do I belong here? (On T.G. I mean)
#2 Is there any hope for a thirty-something to have fun online with COD4? Or should I dust off the Genesis and be done with it?
#3 Umm.... And anything else I didn't think to ask that you may be able to help with.

Have mercy on the new guy.

    Bob

    Heya Bob,

I think you are looking for the TG PS3 forums. These forums are for the PC version.

    Re: Do I belong here?

    Hi Bob
You are most welcome here any time but we all have cod4 on pc.There is a console gaming section (360 ps3 wii)in the forums that might suite you better because that is what you've got. I'm not sure whether there are severs for them as i don't have a consle and never played there.but if you want to play on pc you won't find better servers to play on! we have sever1 which is a standard hardcore we have server2 which is moded with all custom maps which is really cool we also have a moded world at war server which is also awsome. And we even have a cod2 server.
As for do you belong yes it's a great place with great people you won't find a better place
Is there hope for a thirty something? well i'm a little older than you and only started playing cod4 15 months ago and now can't get away from it.
So it's up to you what you make of it.
    Cheers
    Wookiie

Ahh....Jezz....I suppose asking "Do I belong here" just brought on a new meaning.
Sorry guys, I'll go see the console fellas. Thanks for the warm welcome, even though I walked in the wrong room. Nothing like making a dork out of yourself right off the bat. HAHA

    Take care fellas,
    Bob

    Re: Do I belong here?

You definitely seem like the kind of player I'd like to play with. If your PC meets the minimum requirements for Call of Duty 4 (http://blogulate.com/content/call-of...-requirements/), you might want to consider buying it for PC. This may be my innate PC snobbery talking, but no matter where you play on a console version, I don't imagine you're going to find the level of maturity or enjoyment of TG's PC CoD4 servers. Also, you won't be able to play on modded servers (like TG server 2) that slow the game down and add even more realism.

Even if you're right about being much less skilled than the average player on TG, I'm sure we'll all have patience with you and do our best to help you get better and help you get the most out of your time on here.

But even if you stick with the PS3 version, I hope you find enjoyment and stick with it, cos it's rewarding.

    Re: Do I belong here?

Hey, thanks for the encouragement Balfa. Much appreciated, truly.

Unfortunately, I'm going to stick with the PS3 version, for a few reasons. The top two being:
    - I was laid off from my job recently and spending money for new games isn't going to happen.
    - I've got a 140" video projection unit (16:9) that I'm playing the game on. In addition, there's a total of nine 15" speakers and two 10" speakers in 5.1 surround for the audio. Sure beats the 22" PC monitor with the cheapy 2.1 sound system I have. When you guys blow me up with ordinance, trust me, I not only hear it, I can FEEL it too!

Sorry to hear the best are on PC. It's been many years since I've played a game on my PC.

Thank you very much for the hope that I find happiness. I hope so too.

In the mean time, I'm going back to some gaming on the PS3 tonight. My moniker is my PSN name if anyone happens to be on right now.

    Balfa, thank you again!

    Bob

    Re: Do I belong here?

I've thought about having an HDMI splitter to send the various video signals to the PC instead of the projector. But before today, I never really thought I "had to have it", if you know what I mean. I always chose to spend the cash on other toys in the 'man cave'. Yea, I regret that now.
