Fix for an empty server
I see the empty server complaint pop up now and again, and I have a solution for you. Seed the server. That's right, join the empty server in hopes of drawing more players. I do this all the time on the WaW server and 9 times out of 10, I get a game going. Hell, a couple of nights ago, I joined the WaW server to seed and within the course of 3 minutes, 5 people joined. 10 minutes after that, we had a 5v5 game going.
For some reason, many people seem to be afraid of seeding a server, citing such heartbreaking reasons as: "Its so boring!", theres nothing to do", or my personal favorite, "I seeded for 5 minutes and no-one showed up!" (QQ). Well, if everyone is just sitting at their computer, watching the server browser and not joining, then the server will sit empty. You can use the alone time while seeding to practice with a weapon, explore a map, find good defensive positions, or cook up a good offensive strategy.
Another empty server solution tool is Xfire. The core group of testers for the SOG mod all run Xfire and we are all on each others friends lists (and we all run Xfire at windows start-up). This way, we can see when one of us is seeding and hop on to help. I see a lot of people in the TG CoD Xfire group that never actually run Xfire and I am curious as to why. Xfire is a stable program that takes up minimal system resources and offers a plethora of very useful features. Personally, I couldn't live without Xfire and I think you will echo my thoughts once you actually start using the program.
Anyways, just my $0.02.

Re: Fix for an empty server
Thanks for this post MK. Last night it didn't take long to get a game going on server 2 once Birdie got in there to seed. I joined not long after he got in and we had a 4v4 going within about 20 minutes.
I don't mind 1v1, 1v2, etc. It's a good simulation of many of the endgames that happen regularly, so it's good practice.

Re: Fix for an empty server
If you are having problems with Xfire, get on the Xfire Support Forums and search for your problem. If you dont find your problem already listed, start a new post asking for help. I have done this a couple of times for Xfire and actually had the creators of the program walk me through steps to get it fixed.

Re: Fix for an empty server
I used to be the first one on Server 2 all the time. Fortunately on our servers it doesn't take long to seed them.

Re: Fix for an empty server
I used to seed the servers quite a lot, then I moan when people come on just as I have to leave xD.
A couple of days ago I was seeding Server 1 when DJ came on and we had a lauh on crash, before long we had a 4v4 going then a bunch of us went of Server 2 and we had a 3v3 on there. Seeding really does work...

Re: Fix for an empty server
There are a couple Xfire TG groups.
The COD Series one is right here.
You may also find all the current COD4 members signed up in the group.

Re: Fix for an empty server
I've seen the sever empty and thought I can go on and look around the map and find a couple of good spots to use when the server is full. Well I start out then before I can get a look around someone joins then another and another and then the server is full. I didn't have a chance to really explore the map.
This has happened more than once.
