Re: Where did your name come from?
Ooh, you've got the same birthday as my sister.
And one day before my daughter.

Re: Where did your name come from?
Hey Guys,
The Lorax is a fictional character from Dr. Suess. Little dude who speaks for the trees. My family history is in forestry and the cartoon, or rather the story, was a favorite growing up and sorta stuck with me all the way through college.
I am a forester by trainning and am a big proponent of 'wise use' and so I named my company Loraxe International Ltd. (I added an 'e' on the end to avoid a lawsuit from Dr. Suess)
When I started competition, I used the name and it stuck. There is another Lorax here at TG and he did have the name first on these forums but I would have used the same spelling regardless.
Good post.

Re: Where did your name come from?
Hey Balfa,
Forestry involves quite a bit of time in the woods, which is really cool. Most of our time is spent with 'Biometrics' or the measurement of the woody mass (wood fiber) in a forest. We use statistics, calculus and quite a bit of a special math called 'Biometry'. My work involves projections and predictions. The more fun part is meeting with folks who really want to do the right thing on their properties and not just clearcut it for a quick profit, but try to do something much more sustainable and make some better choices for not only the land but also for their kids or grandkids. It is ok to use our resources, but not to abuse them.
Other things we do would be Timber Stand Improvements (TSI's) (Thinning a plantation, Delimbing Trees for better clear wood production, Disease or pest control and the like); Harvest Setup and Administration, Timber Cruising, and Tree Planting.
My Grandfather and Father were both foresters and it seems to be in my blood. I love the land and have a deep affinity for all things natural. If any of you guys like to hunt and fish or just get out in nature, the offer stands for you to come up for a stay. One of the very cool things about being up here is that there are very very few people and that most of our land is public, by far. It is your guys' land too; might as well come up and use it.

Re: Where did your name come from?
BxMedic was my Battlefield name. BxMedic = Bronx Paramedic. Changed to DeadMedic because 1. I no longer work in the Bronx (Brooklyn now) and 2. One day at work I had an altercation with someone. As he took a sad drunken swing at me he said " You gonna be one dead medic" I thought that was funny so I became DeadMedic.
