Re: Mod tools to be released by the end of this week!

things I hope to see are

- Bigger maps
- Indoor style maps ie. office tower, large factory, subway station,
- new gun mods adding a ton of weapons and attachments
- new tactical tools ie. grappling hooks etc.
- new maps pulled strait from the single player
- movable doors
- opening more of the buildings in the current maps (most of the buildings have finished insides you can see through windows but you just can't get into them which is silly)
- new objectives ie. hostage rescue, CTF, defuse (where the map starts with one side having a bomb hidden on the map and the other side must find and defuse it within a set amount of time)
-SWAT mod

I think this game has allot going for it mostly cause of the potential for modding

1 Check
2 Check
3 Possible but not likely even anytime soon. The various weapon mods that occured for previous releases were mostly reskins. There were maybe 2 new weapons released for CoD2 by the community.
4 Possible but same as above
5 Check
6 Definitely this will occur as people get the editor and work on maps.
7 refer to 6
8 CTF, Return the flag and hold the flag are new modes that were already released.
9 You mean SWAT the game or a Tactical mod? If you mean the later then it's already out and in testing.

Wouldn't that be an entire new map file/download? Is it really even worth it?

I bet you can edit certain objects on the maps with a mod configuration.

More open interiors require a lot more resources. So remember that you future map designers. Warehouse style maps would be fun though, and some true night maps. I like maps with weather effects as well.

Ditto on the Giddy. If they could giddy up the map making and giddy it on to the servers then I'll giddy ready to unload some rounds and possibly hit someone with my bullets. Not likely but still a slim chance. New maps, great news!

allot of the buildings in the current maps that are closed have been finished if you look though windows and boards so the resources are already in use they just don't have them open but ya multi floor office battle or a hospital battle would be very cool

Ironic Darkstar that you would want night maps!

I think with larger maps we will have to test how the extra square footage effects performance. It would be shame to have beautifull large maps that only half the community can play (slower systems). COD4 is pretty well optimised I believe so perhaps it won't be much of an issue, perhaps lowering the odd setting etc.

Re: Mod tools to be released by the end of this week!

I am going to attempt to make a map that is similar in concept to Office in CS, the main difference: it is night time and the building power has been cut. OpFor will spawn in the building and the USMC will be outside.

There should be a standard by now, so I'd like to see larger maps, about double the size of overgrown at least.

Yes and YES.
The map if set on pure server would require that the map be the same on the client as the server. If the server is not set to be pure then the client can have additional features the server might not recognize and possibly exploit those features.
