Re: My latest map Download

NP.

I just deleted every file for this map. Made a stripped down version of the gsc file. Added only the necessary zone files and tested it all out. It runs on my computer. Wether or not it runs on somebody elses, who knows.

Can you give it a try. Only the 2 FF files are uploaded, which according to the wiki is all that is needed. I can work on the minimap and loadscreen later, I just want to know what I'm doing wrong here. Thanks a bunch guys!

Re: My latest map Download

does it not need a .iwd file to run?

NVM, downloaded the 2 files and stuck em in my zone/english folder. Fired up a modded local server and loaded the map fine.

I LOVE THIS MAP!

I could spend hours playing this map alone. It seriously rocks dude.

I took some screenshots of some slight issues and will post them later. But they are all very minor issues and I know this is still beta.

AWESOME WORK!

+rep!

EDIT: ARGH, can't find all the screenshots I took!

Re: My latest map Download

Nice it finally works for me! Yeah it does look like it would be fun to play.

The sunrays in the chapel in the very back look out of place. I just ran around for a minute but that was one thing I did notice right away

Re: My latest map Download

I don't know what to say. Can't believe it worked. I was wondering if anyone would notice the sun rays coming in from the wrong side. Ooops.

Yeah..let me know if you see any issues. The one main thing that bugs the crap out of me is the loss of grass textures over a distance and an occassional tree popping up out of nowhere. Not sure if you guys noticed this or if it is my graphics card (nvidia quadrofx 1500) not performing to its peak. To resolve some of this, I think I need to place some more structures to take up what the computer needs to draw, or remove some grass. (eliminate the amount of drawing distance)

I actually got so frustrated knowing that you guys couldn't get it to run that, I started a new map last night. I'm going to build it with only foilage prefabs and just build the whole thing from scratch. It will have an ancient theme to it.

But, now I'll go back to krutzenfleig and keep touching it up.

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: My latest map Download

Do you think you can give us noob mappers some pointers? Just a couple general questions I guess. Did you create all the buildings yourself or are they prefabs? How big are your maps in terms of units? Do you already have a layout in mind or do you just start placing stuff randomly and then switch stuff around? And do you create a huge terrain patch first and then add your buildings and objects or do place your buildings first and then create the terrain around your objects?

Re: My latest map Download

Found my screenshots finally. 2 quick things.

Make the cars explodable. Add some exploding barrels.

Now onto the small things with the screens:

1. This is the ladder on top of one of the towers. The one on the left side if you are coming from the bridge I think:

The ladder stops, but you can keep climbing up the wall.

2. These 2 doors need either ramps or stairs, they can be a bit tricky to get into:

3. Floating carpet! Where's Aladdin?

4. Not sure how to describe where this is other than by saying the high place with the stairs. You can walk through part of the walls:

5. Not sure what happened here. I shot the laptops and they were levitating afterwards. A couple more shots brought em down to the ground. Kind of hard to see.

Also:

In the building right next to the church... from the inside of the upstairs, the walls seem to be paper thin.
Some things seem to have duplicates. Like in the room where those laptops are, I shot a picture off the wall and there was an identical one right behind it.

All in all, really small things. But if you can work em all out, I could see this one making it to the 360/PS3 map pack!

Re: My latest map Download

jmaker:

I created half of the buildings from scratch and the rest are prefabs. As far as the prefabs go, they are never right to begin with. I always have to open up the prefab, right click the 2d area and then enter it to edit out some of the stuff and add some stuff to make it playable. Some of them are just shells that I hack up and then add my own touches to them.

The map size of this one is roughly 7300x4500

I usually have a good idea of what I want to do but, it seems to change frequently throughout the process.

I start with a small to medium sized terrain, build it up and then start adding more sections from there making sure the edges of my terrain are all at zero for an easy connection to the next section. It starts out looking like too much work if you make a huge terrain with a little tiny building in the middle. Then you start thinking to yourself "man this sucks, I gotta lot of work ahead of me".

I think everyone should try and make a map. It's pretty rewarding, running around looking at what you've created.

KillDaddy:

I will start fixing it all when I'm done typing this. I ran around on this map a little today at lunch time and realize I needed to fix some things and add a few things too. Thanks for the screenshots! Gives me some good reference to go off.

It'll probably take me a good week to make it close to perfect. I'll be back.

And thanks to both of you for all of the input.
