German Front Mod 2 - Keep a look out
The German Front Mod 2 is currently in the works. This was a very succesful Mod for Call of Duty 1.
It adds kits like Officers, Medics, and Support. I think it might even have an Engineer who is the one to place the bombs.
Best of all, WRM supports German Front Mod, and there will most likely be a compatible version of WRM made.

Yes, very cool! This would be a great addition IMO, and allow for even more tactical possibilities.

Re: German Front Mod 2 - Keep a look out
They will be releasing a GFM Mini-Mod soon which will include the Soldier Classes.
Hopefully Wolfbane will be right on the ball to release a WRM version for GFM.

So has anyone played the minimod yet? I'll try tomorrow morning...
If it is good then we cant start taking the steps to make a TG realism version of the GFM.

Re: German Front Mod 2 - Keep a look out
I tried it. I don't like it. Also, the only servers running it are in Germany, and some other country I don't recognize the flag. The Mod is in German, so when you go to pick Soldier Class you will have to click on them and see what they are, unless you know German. I do not like the new weapon sounds. I do not like the feel of the Mod to be honest. The only thing I like about the Mod is the idea of a Soldier Class System.
I think if you take WRM and add a Soldier Class System, then that would be a good Mod.
Also, another thing to think about, the GFM Mini-Mod requires a client download. I think we should try to keep our client downloads to a minimum.

That would be ideal. Can we make our own Mod to accomplish this? We don't necessarily need different skins for the models, although that would be a nice feature to have. I would think just having the various class/kit/weapon loadouts would serve our purposes just fine.

I don't think you would need new skins, except for maybe the Medic.
For the Officer, just give him the officer skin that is already in the game that people randomly get. And then force all the infantry soldiers to the normal skin.

Re: German Front Mod 2 - Keep a look out
Wait...
Why would having a soldier class system be any different from what we have now? If you want to select "Light Infantryman" instead of "M1 Garand" as your weapon that would be easy as pie. A sub-menu where you pick "Light Infantryman" then your choice of M1 Carbine / M1 Garand / M3 Greasegun would be a bit harder but not something that is beyond our scope (assuming we have no competent modders here
).
Most of the skins you will need are in the game already, the way it works is that you assemble characters in parts (body, head, helmet and hands (visible in 1st person)). I know for a fact that the Americans have a medic helmet waiting as you can see them in the SP missions. German and Russian are another story and would require customs skins and everything... a bit beyond our scope.
Medic seems kind of silly to me as I dont think we want to be able to heal back to 100% and you can already stop your own bleeding.
Deployable MGs would be nice though :/

Re: German Front Mod 2 - Keep a look out
Each player can currently stop his own bleeding; could we make it so that only a different player could stop another player's bleeding? In effect, we'd all be low-level medics, but we'd have to rely on our teammates to administer medical attention. This might help further promote teamplay.
I like the idea of limiting various weapons to kits/roles, and I would suspect that we could limit the number of kits per team the same way the number of weapons are already limited.
And yeah, I wonder how hard the deployable machinegun would be to implement. That feature alone would increase possible tactics, IMO.

Re: German Front Mod 2 - Keep a look out
Only being bandaged by teammates might be a better idea. A dedicated medic class would, IMO, be largely useless if their only function would be to stop bleeding. A majority of fights end with one dead or bleeding to death within a few seconds, not nearly enough time to respond.
The other changes are aesthetic only though, no matter what we will still be limiting the team to 1 sniper, 2 BARs, etc. Not a priority but would be pretty fancy.Last edited by TurnLeft!; 01-25-2006 at 04:01 PM.

Re: German Front Mod 2 - Keep a look out
So how hard would it be to add in portable machineguns (similar to what the German Front Mod is doing)? Can we just use the model already in the game, but make it available for a player to actually choose, carry, and use?

Huh? The Mini-Mod was released on the 20th. The full version (well, a beta) will not be released until COD2 comes out with a Mod Kit.
