Re: MW2 is dead
Throwing out my better conscious efforts at resisting the purchase, I ended up buying CoD:MW2 anyways and the big factor was being able to play with the one person I spend most of my online gaming time with.
To counter some of the points made by the IW staffers:
What balance? I got through over 25 games and most of the time one team had all the cheaters and skilled players with their high-end rank 50 weapons while the rest of us newbies were saddled on the OpFor with practically nothing be 3-round burst FAMAS and a shotgun. Not to mention the insane spawncamping taking place.--Still no details on how matchmaking balances teams:
Mackey-IW: Well none of the programmers are in the chat today.. so let's just say it's crazy programmer magic. It's a lot more than just K/D though. The important thing is not that all players in a game are the exact same skill, but that the teams are balanced.
The fact that we're a week away from launch, and no one can tell us how IWnet even attempts to calculate skill is a scary thought.
Fail.
ROFL. Using VAC was the first problem. God knows that system thrives on having cheaters multiple instead of banning them. Second problem: cheating is still more rampant now. Hell now, we can't even kick or ban any of them because we have no control. So if you're stuck on a "server" with cheaters, you're outta luck. I had 9 games where cheaters dominated. You don't get rank 50 in 2 hours of play and get away with 67 kills and 1 death in a game. You also can't swing around and kill 12 guys surrounding you in less than 3 seconds (I watched the kill cam for this aimbotting cheater). That doesn't happen with non-cheating players.--No ability to kick griefers/TKers/Spammers/Hackers:
Mackey-IW: Our goal is to ban hackers from the game.
and
Mackey-IW: You can easily mute players, and hardcore (friendly fire enabled ) SD has "ricochet" which makes you hurt yourself instead.
So you're "hoping" to ban hackers, and you're advice for dealing with griefers/TKers is to ignore them?
They're basically saying: cheating, it's the only thing worth doing since we have no moral consciousence.
LOL. Try 15 minutes. Then it that host leaves and it tries to migrate to yet another person. This round-about game goes on for a whole hour before the IW code decides to kick you because "server disconnected for 2 seconds".--Games are indeed hosted by a single-player, and host quits result in 5 sec delay:
kaRMa: Please give me a direct answer. On the PC version. Are all games hosted by players, and is there a 5 second delay when host migration is in effect?
Vince-IW: yes.
The Ubisoft Vegas 2 matchmaking system was at least decent. This one is a complete joke that literally is a reboxed version of the ones found on those crappy consoles that are supposedly "next generation" gaming. Laughable as computers are the current and next generation and those consoles are based off of any advancements PCs make (and then fall behind as we surge forward).
I just read through one of those IW interview logs. These are supposed to be older employees? They sound like a bunch of 14 year olds that got sugar high. Swearing left and right, one word answers to multi-part questions, general lack of grammar, responses that make no sense, etc. Very frustrating to read.Last edited by Acreo Aeneas; 11-13-2009 at 09:26 PM.

Re: MW2 is dead
It's a great time if you can find a good bunch of players to play with or a friend to play the new special co-op with. If you end up with even one cheater, be prepared to wish for a magic anvil of doom so you can squash the cheater into a bloody pudding of slime.
Forgot to mention they're solution to open up a player's NAT router firewall is a link to a few of the major router brand's homepages and the words "enable UPnP in your router settings". I pratically disabled every firewall and QoS setting between my PC and the local WAN for my internet. MW2 still tells me my NAT is on "strict" even though it's wide-open all the way. Extremely frustrating which leads me to believe the problem lies in the coding of their matchmaking system.Acreo Aeneas

Re: MW2 is dead
I get the same error when trying to play Dawn of War 2 online sometimes. Which leads me to believe that IWnet is really Games for Windows Live in disguise when it comes to matchmaking.

Re: MW2 is dead
I ain't no economist, but I reckon if you buy it used, the supply of used copies goes down, so the price goes up, then someone who would've potentially bought a used game for $15 below the price of a new one decides that $10 below the price of new is so small that he may as well get the new one, therefore you have, indrectly, contributed to Activision's bank account. Don't fool yourself
