MW2 is dead
If you didn't get a chance to catch tonights chat, IW confirmed that multiplayer is capped at 9v9. There are some bombshells in their chat that quite frankly, show that they don't give a crap about PC gamers going forward.
Here's a couple of snippets to wet your appetite:
Moriarte
Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?
Mackey-IW
No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings
And this gem:
"This game is not balanced for lean."
Don't take my word for it thought, here's a link to the text of the chat I pulled from the Steam forums.

Re: MW2 is dead
The arrogance of these guys, trying to defend the indefensible and 402 claiming to have signed the list 4 times to negate the reality of the opposition to their IWNet. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of playing this dog if it was given to me.

Re: MW2 is dead
Nail in the coffin. Not a chance in hell I'll bother with MW2 mp. Rent for the SP, that's about it.

Re: MW2 is dead
Wow 9v9 MP on the PC? What a waste. Why didn't they just tweak the old system and add new content? They've really ruined the MP it sounds like.

Re: MW2 is dead
Lol!!!! I didn't know whether to cry or laugh. Some of the stuff they revealed was eye-wateringly funny. Examples:
01:21 nkrull
Is the tactical nuke an immedeate win for your team as it is shown in one video?
01:22 ModernWarfare69
Where did you get the ideas for the weapons from?
01:22 Ryan-IW: To ModernWarfare69
We get most of our ideas from real weapons being fielded right now from multiple military and other operating sources. We strive to make each weapon look and feel as they would in real life.
01:22 Ryan-IW
Yes, the tactical nuke is a win. A BIG win! lol
LOL!!!! Yea, because a tactical nuclear strike being dropped on 8 guys is really 'realistic'
Ummm, so what? An automated camper?Sentry guns are basically miniguns on a tripod that react to enemy movement. They are a killstreak or you can get them in a care package
-----------Is there a /record feature? Answer yes... please. We're trying to give you a 'chance'
02:46 Vince-IW
no
Also some people made some pretty funny points about IW net and the 9v9 player limit.
Is iw.net laggy? Has it been tested in the sahara on dial-up while downloading 3gig files and running antivirus with less than 200 ping? Hope so, it'll need it.All in all a good interview if you wanted to induce laughter / vomit from the PC community...Axen Please explain how a 9v9 match is a multiplayer experience? I'd have more fun serving lunch at a local nursing home.
This guy sums up MW2 very well IMO:
Vince, there are 178,000 voices that say you need dedicated servers for the PC. COD4 is the bigest online game in history! Why in the world would you take away dedicated servers and change the whole MP experience for us? And Mackey, the PC version with dedicated servers is already the best experience the way it is!|TG-189th|PaintScratcher - 189th Infantry Brigade'It’s one of the characteristics of a leader that he not doubt for one moment the capacity of his men to realize whatever he’s dreaming'

Re: MW2 is dead
Some post about a guy commenting on the highlights of the Best Buy chat. I highlighted the chat in bold. This is for those who didn't want to read through that wall of vomit. The comments below are not mine.
*****************************'
I was already going to wait to buy this game, but after reading the transcript of the developer chat I now know that I will be avoiding it entirely. I wanted to compile all the info that I think PC gamers will care about most, so here's the most disappointing facts revealed (I've listed the worst offenders first):
--PC version IS DIRECT CONSOLE PORT, although IW denies this:
Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?
Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.
I dont understand how this is not a direct port. Notice they haven't even improved graphics on PC over other platforms, all they've done is include PC relevant controls and settings. By their logic, Ninja Gaiden Sigma on ps3 isn't a 360 port since it enables using a ps3 controller. The fact that the graphics will be the same, matchmaking will be the same, gameplay will be the same, even the price is the same, this all sounds like a direct port to me, and it means the only adv PC will have is mouse/keyboard control
--Evidence of horrible connections:
Mackey-IW: I've been playing mainly with around 100ms ping and it was great.
An avg ping of ~100ms is way higher then the avg ping of servers I choose to play on, and any ping over 70ms produces a noticeable lag effect on gameplay. On top of this, the fact that the developers get a 100ms ping avg, and they're playing on a closed network connection with other players in the same building (all of whom presumably have no other background downloads or programs running), is a terrible sign for what the real world pings will be, especially for overseas players.
--No serious testing of overseas connections:
GeneralClean: Have you tested IW.net with connecting with overseas players? And if so what were the results?
Vince-IW: Yes, seemed good.
Wow, it "seemed good"? Sounds like you spent about 5 minutes test playing it without doing any kind of quantitative analysis of connection speed, latency, # of dropped packets, etc. Considering that millions of gamers around the world will be playing this online, you probably should have done a thorough test.
--MP limited to 9v9:
Mackey-IW: The max number of players on all platforms are 1v1 through 9v9.
When asked how this is an improvement over CoD4, which supported 32v32 and the most common map size was 16v16, they said
The CoD4 maps were not balanced for 32vs32. In MW2 the entire experience is carefully balanced for a smaller range of players.
I don't know about you, but the larger maps felt balanced to me, especially the 16v16
--Still no details on how matchmaking balances teams:
Mackey-IW: Well none of the programmers are in the chat today.. so let's just say it's crazy programmer magic. It's a lot more than just K/D though. The important thing is not that all players in a game are the exact same skill, but that the teams are balanced.
The fact that we're a week away from launch, and no one can tell us how IWnet even attempts to calculate skill is a scary thought.
--No ability to kick griefers/TKers/Spammers/Hackers:
Mackey-IW: Our goal is to ban hackers from the game.
and
Mackey-IW: You can easily mute players, and hardcore (friendly fire enabled ) SD has "ricochet" which makes you hurt yourself instead.
So you're "hoping" to ban hackers, and you're advice for dealing with griefers/TKers is to ignore them?
--Games are indeed hosted by a single-player, and host quits result in 5 sec delay:
kaRMa: Please give me a direct answer. On the PC version. Are all games hosted by players, and is there a 5 second delay when host migration is in effect?
Vince-IW: yes.
--The ability to dual-wield smg's and shotguns:
homie_wanna_liv: Can you dual wield SMG's with akimbo? Or just pistols?
Mackey-IW: Yup SMGs
Mackey-IW: And shottys if I'm not mistaken.
Wow, imagine the spray-and-pray madness of someone with 2 smgs, steady aim and stopping power. You could literally rack up dozens of kills without any skill whatsoever. And who thought it was a good idea to dual-wield shtoguns, which can one-shot kill people under normal circumstances?
--No ability to record matches:
frzg: Is there a /record feature? Answer yes... please. We're trying to give you a 'chance'
Vince-IW: no
--Killstreaks that end the match:
Mackey-IW: After you use the 25 kill streak, the game ends.
Considering how easy they made the gameplay, I can see lots of good players getting this easily and withing the first 5-10 min of a match
--Deathstreaks that serve primarily to let the worst players in a room have a big impact on everyone else:
Mackey-IW: death streaks don't kick in until you've died several times, so you're not going to be tearing up the leaderboard with deathstreaks. They're just a great way to get out of a cold snap.
--Removing ability to lean around corners:
Mackey-IW: The game is not balanced for lean.
Seems like their default excuse for removing any feature is whether it's "balanced", which doesn't explain why they included so many perks/deathstreaks/killstreaks which all serve to UNBALANCE gameplay.

Re: MW2 is dead
Wow....I don't even know what to say....many of these changes are regressions from the original COD (which was released in 2003)....this game has fail written all over it...

I'll just share a few of my favorites:
02:05 Axen
Please explain how a 9v9 match is a multiplayer experience? I'd have more fun serving lunch at a local nursing home.
02:05 Vince-IW
Sounds like are a very compassionate and giving person. I hope the people at the nursing home appreciate you.02:20 GunnZero
i play on all gaming machines, if it allows me to game, im on it. But will PC have Mod tools?
02:20 Vince-IW
We haven't made any decisions regarding this yet.01:46 Laugh
Is there a console in the PC version of the game, so we can change our field of view from the xbox's default 65 FOV to 80 also can we tweaks the weapon damage for each gun, removes perks, graphical debris, breathing sway, also thru console like we where able to before or is this all gone?
01:46 Vince-IW
We would like you to play the game the way we designed and balanced it.I felt like they sidestepped half of the questions.02:26 frzg
Was the decision to create IWNet for PC a profit based decision or a 'genuine improvement of the game'?
02:26 Vince-IW
To improve the game, it actually cost us money to develop it so the there isn't a profit motive.

Re: MW2 is dead
I suspect they are tired of fielding questions about some very unpopular decisions and they know they can't provide the answers we want to hear.
Uh huh, yeah, sure. Do you really expect us to believe that? Never mind the ability to control the player base and charge us for every 'improvement' and add-on they come up with.02:26 frzg

Forget it, I'm not even getting it for the SP when it goes on sale.
