Re: I lol'd...
A LOT of us care. The COD:MW server went through a TON of changes. When I first played, I got reprimanded for not moving fast enough and cutting in front of line of fires. Then it changed and became a much more slowly paced game. Now there might have been disagreements at to what actually constituted how the game should have been played within the parameters of "the TG way", but just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not TG.
As for the 2142 server not being too extreme or restrictive with it's rules, I could NOT disagree more. There has not been the same set of rules for years, I've seen major rules changes within the 2142 server. No beacons on rooftops? That was a very hotly debated topic for months before an answer was settled on, more than a few people disliked the new rule, but adapted and changed with it. There have even been discussions on how far into the enemy territory you can go before you are considered to be base raping....how is this different from the lines drawn up to give a visual of the areas that are restricted like MW2???A captain of the most awesome IHS ever and remember to burn before you pillage.

Re: I lol'd...
I never "boycotted" the game. I did sign the petition for dedicated servers, though. But that is not a boycott. I don't believe in boycotting games. Buy games, have fun with them, and when you get bored of it stop playing it. End of story. Gaming is a hobby... If you don't like a particular game, don't buy it.
I agree that a lot got destroyed for MW2, and I really do feel we got the shaft. But it's not the end of the world...
Boycotters are silly anyway...

Re: I lol'd...
Oh please, people who join STEAM groups boycotting products ON STEAM are just silly.
A real dissenter keeps his money in his wallet, does not troll, and says "well that's just what he chooses to do with his money, but I have principles."
I feel like this whole sect of TG is going to bash anyone they see who enjoys this game for it's face value - yes it's a shard of what it should have been, but if you keep that in mind you can still have fun with it.
EDIT: STEAM reports MP has peaked today at 60,000. Still ridiculously low. The boycott is still effective.

Re: I lol'd...
Let me echo what Mindkill mentioned above with regard to changes at CoD4 here at TG. We instituted a new rule set at the start of the summer, made some personel changes, and punched up the map rotations.
We started having mixed mode nights a while ago and enough folks showed interest that we now have a full time mixed mode server so folks that don't like waiting for a round of Search and Destroy to end can get right back into the action.
Friday night is our night for CoD4 and everybody that plays it here would be happy to see some new old faces show up once in a while. Check in on Teamspeak to see which server folks are on. We usually draw a pretty good crowd on Saturdays too.
All of our CoD servers are currently running as 24 player but that really means 22, as two slots are used for the supporting membership script.
We no longer have a vanilla server as of the beginning of this month. One has been in place pretty much since CoD4 came out but for the last 6 months plus, it's been nothing but tumbleweeds. The regulars want to play custom maps because of their additional size and complexity so the server basically never got seeded on a regular basis.
Sorry to go off topic but their were a number of comments made that I wanted to address. I really do hope folks give us another try. You'll find a lot of teamwork, a lot of comms and some cool and funny folks.

Re: I lol'd...
Drona I do not point fingers....the COD 4 community as a whole changed our servers rules.....some of which i hated to death but still I played and supported the game here......when it got bad though it got really bad and i don't think anyone can argue that fact.

You've heard of Tier 1 and Seal team Six right?

Re: I lol'd...
That would be me. Complaining isn't going to matter to them if you just turn around and give them your $60 anyways. Activision won't make changes unless they feel it will improve sales.
I'm not going to bash anybody, but I will gently remind them of what I stated above. And it's really unfortunate that MW2 pales in comparison to what could have been. Hopefully they will come to their senses and allow dedicated servers, etc. in which case sales should go through the roof.I feel like this whole sect of TG is going to bash anyone they see who enjoys this game for it's face value - yes it's a shard of what it should have been, but if you keep that in mind you can still have fun with it.
Let's hope so...EDIT: STEAM reports MP has peaked today at 60,000. Still ridiculously low. The boycott is still effective.|TG|MeleeClear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose!

Re: I lol'd...
I've been around TG for multiple games a long time. I'm definitely not a fan of the way that MW2 multiplayer has been handled by IW, but was it enough for me to not purchase the game? No. Would I prefer dedicated tactical servers at TG and at Focused Gaming? Of course. However, that just isn't a reality in this incarnation and despite my initial thoughts about passing on MW2 I pulled the trigger w/ a giftcard I had and purchased it.
MW2 is disappointing from a "potential" standpoint. This game could have been groundbreaking from a PC multiplayer perspective - no doubt. However, when taking potential out of the equation the game does an excellent job in many aspects. I can see how certain consumers are completely justified in not purchasing the game based on what they want from a title. This time around I am not one of those people. Does this make me a "less" tactical player? I don't think so. I would definitely prefer playing MW2 more tactically than it is being played w/out dedicated server support and the options that go w/ that feature. I'm just able to adjust my perspective and accept it for a little less than what it could have potentially been.
As for the COD4 servers here at TG, players (and admins) sometimes forget that the pendulum swings the complete spectrum of "tactical". It goes from a complete chaotic free-for-all on one end, all the way to suffocatingly over-bearing rules on the other.
During my COD4 period here I firmly believe that server swung all the way to the over-bearing side based on certain individuals vision of tactical for periods of time.
Unfortunately, this chased away many of the more reliable and active players. Just as some of the same types of players were chased away by the perceived lack of tactical play.
Too bad we cannot find a happy medium w/ MW2 since it is unavailable to us.Long Live the 2nd BCT and 1st MIP

Re: I lol'd...
seems to me that the real issue is how many PC players (especially TGers) will still be playing in a month or two. I think if you consolify a PC game you'll get the the same results, a lot of hype, then after a short while the player base will get bored and move on.

Re: I lol'd...
While its true that COD4 died out toward the end due to the admins laying on to many rules but at least there was a time when things were good. For about a year we played like every night and so many good things came from it. Now you look at COD6 and it never has a chance to match up to what COD4 did. So why buy a game that will never live up to the what has already been done? Sure they add some "new gear" and maybe a new mechanic but nothing has really changed. You will be hard pressed to find the same kind of reliability, rules, and mentality that was fostered on the COD4 server for the year that it was good.

The hungry, ignorant man immediately grasps that he is handed a fish, but is bewildered when handed a net. The man who shivers in the cold thinks happily of the man who invites him to sit by his fire, and somewhat poorly of the man who loans him an axe, flint and steel.
