    Well said AVS.

My problem of late is getting dropped, lobby closed, steam disconect etc. It seems to be on the rise the last week. I get timed out from maps loading every few maps.

It's frustrating because sometimes you get a good group of people playing and then poof! your gone and obviously can't re-join that exact game without dumb luck.

As for vote kick, I think it would be nice option to have as long as it wasn't to intrusive if you wanted to ignore it.

I'm finding MW2 very enjoyable, and I play nearly every day. I focus on the hardcore maps, where the play seems a bit slower/more careful than the crazy other game types.

The running/knifing morons bug me, but I just leave a game if there are too many - and there rarely are on HC maps.

I've run into a few fellow TG'ers here and there, and we've had some really good games.

    Rant on/

My frustration level with this game is starting to rise.

Last night I was on for a bit and had several host migrations and multiple time outs. I swear the time outs and dropped games are on the rise over the last week. It's really starting to kill the fun. I'm not overly picky, I just want to pick a game type and shoot some people.

The worst part though was last night Sledge and Road Warrior were on and wanted to join up. After about 15 minutes of trying to join games or invite each other we gave up I have no other experince with trying to get groups going and I see several clans play together but what am I missing here? IWnet was supposed to make this sort of thing easy, I know I can join up with TG players much quicker in any other game I've played over the last 5 years. I can see IWnet working but they need to sort it out much better then it's current state.

    /Rant off

Re: I'm done with IW and CODMW2

Only people who have their routers forwarding ports properly and are not behind firewalls (like at schools, businesses) can properly host games. Even then, it all depends on the host's connection and network settings.

In addition to the required ports for Steam (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...8571-GLVN-8711), Modern Warfare 2 requires the following ports for multiplayer:
UDP 1500 (outbound only, no forward needed)
UDP 3005 (outbound only, no forward needed)
UDP 3101 (outbound only, no forward needed)
UDP 28960 (inbound/outbound, must forward to act as a multi-player host, but no forward or inbound traffic needed to find and join games)

For more information please see https://activision.custhelp.com/cgi-...?p_faqid=26621.

    Configuring Your Router

If you do not have the original instruction manual for working with your router, please check your router for the manufacturer or brand name and the router's model number. You will need to run a search for your router manufacturer's website to find instructions for configuring your router to work with Steam and Modern Warfare 2.

PortForward.com is also a useful resource for router-specific instructions (please note that the information provided at PortForward.com may not reflect recent additions to the required ports for Steam).

I have had plenty of problems trying to host. Well, for the most party anyways. Most people are able to join me, but there are a few who cannot (but are behind firewalls and such things that they do not control). However, they can join other games hosted by other individuals. NAT Open is only the beginning. What you should do is find someone who can host you and your buddies, and play with them often. There are generally at least 1-2 groups playing from TG. Yesterday there were 4 (4-5 man) groups.

IWNet is great in terms of matchmaking. It sucks however when it comes to grouping you and your friends. Its interesting to compare how L4D's system and IWnet would be great if the best aspects of both were combined into one system (Battle.Net + Steam Community).

Re: I'm done with IW and CODMW2

Thanks AVS, I have not bothered with the port forwarding etc as I figured I could still join and invite people but not host. Looks like I need to do all the above just to join up with people.

I have done some port forwarding in the past, a bit tedious but not hard. It is a shame though that we have to go to this length to play together under a system that was supposed to be easier for the average person to do. I know my friends who are just your basic PC player couldn't do any of this stuff.

One thing I found out today is that the newest patch released is not working with the current version of Steam and causing the timeouts and for many people no joining or inviting. Apparently there is a beta version of a steam update out that fixes this. Not sure how to get it but apparently it's easy to get via steam?

Yes, go to Steam, File, Settings, Beta Participation, Change, Opt In.

Btw, to add to this thread about fed up with stuff, apparently both Xbox and PC players are getting hit by servers that remove your exp. Pretty scary stuff. Below are two funny videos that were posted on Activision forums regarding the person who gives official responses from IWnet. I got a laugh out of these.

Fourzerotwo is MW2's community manager for Xbox and PC players. He's not exactly the hero of PC gamers.

    Some quotable quotes recently:

No. I don't believe it would be considered faulty. Given your system meets the minimum requirements posted on the box, you can fully enjoy the game's singleplayer campaign and special ops mode without any problems.

As for multiplayer, the same can be expected given that "Gameplay Experience May Change Online" message required by ESRB on all multiplayer games indicates that due to the reliance on network conditions and connections outside of the game's code, the gameplay experience my differ.
Asked about whether a refund is possible.

And lastly but not least, patch 1.0.180 was released to fix the infinite carepackage glitch. What happened to 179 and 178?!

Re: I'm done with IW and CODMW2

It appears they have updated steam quickly to get around this problem. I also did the port forwarding, thanks AVS, and after some messing about got my NAT to open. Overall much more stable game play this weekend then during the week.

I will have to watch those videos as I have "enjoyed" some of the official responces so far.

Re: I'm done with IW and CODMW2

Just to go with what Long Bow was saying, playing with friends can be an extremely frustrating experience. Add to that fact that there is only really one option for large games and multiplayer becomes very difficult to set up. I typically play with 3 or 4 other people at the same time and even then it can be a pain to keep an eye on who may or may not have been dropped from a game (thank God for Ventrilo). Yesterday, I was playing with 10 people in my group for a few maps and we were restricted to the good old TDM/Domination set up if we wanted to be on the same teams. This was even more difficult to track who was in/out needed invites etc, especially as players getting dropped by IWnet was more frequent.

this is why you buy a real console, then you dont get any of this bull****, its not IW's fault, its your fault for buying it for pc when you obviously knew that there would be hackers

Does trolling about PC vs platform add anything to the conversation? Regardless of the games interface (pc or a box), it's broke and/or there are too many twits who are happy to cheat/glitch/exploit. Criticising the honest players makes no sense.

Re: I'm done with IW and CODMW2

It is a great game, nothing like bf2 pr or AA. Cod4 was good for the dedicated servers. I played tons of tactical games on Cod4 and art of war. But mw2 can only provide a tactical feel in hardcore search and destroy mode, Hq, and some others depending on those in. I try to get everyone on my team to think tactical by yelling out comms for targets and strategy. But there will always be the downside until we get a dedicated server environ. Has anyone tried to set up a server and invite? could that work?

You know, this is the same BS that you find on the xbox, but it looks like it just looks different. I feel for you guys.
