Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
I've been killed by the MP5 quite a bit but I haven't seen many players on the TG server use it. It definitely has less stopping power but I don't think it matters too much on a hardcore server. I do like the iron sights on the MP5 over the M16. It feels like a better view. If you get it upgraded to suppressor, it may be good for those silent CQB moments. That short barrel could be the advantage you need when up against walls.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
mp5 with silencer is a good choice, only thing is it has a lot of recoil, so try to do burst shots from medium range. I've always had a thing for the skorpion though too, its fire rate is really nice.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
I haven't tried any of the other SMG's other than the MP5. It sure does have a lot of recoil and I'd like to see if a suppressor helps with that (not unlocked yet). I do like the suppressor though because it doesn't have the muzzle flash and stabilizes the weapon while firing. Now I can see and shoot properly for once except it takes more bullets to kill. lol.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
I think the key to the smg's is to fire from the hip, the mp5's recoil seems much less problematic there, and with steady aim it will shoot spot on for most close to mid engagements. I will say that smg's should rarely be silenced as they pack a mean punch but in a limited range, the silencer just makes the range even worse and most smg's have a high low to max damage split on ranges. The ak74 is more rifle like in the way that on iron sights it has easy to handle recoil. If you want a better idea of how weapons perform http://chkilroy.com/cod4/ this guy found the code for all the guns, seems pretty reliable, although deviation and recoil patterns( or lack there of on most guns) isn't accounted for so. Each dot is ten damage otherwise it should be self explanatory.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
Thanks for the link L10N, I will need to compare the specs and see whats what. I haven't tried out the other smg's and did receantly unlock the ak74. I do find that the MP5 seems to have to much recoil compared to some of the other weapons. I would imagine that a 9mm smg with a stock would be fairly tame for full auto. The MP5 in game seems to jump drasticaly after one or two rounds. I'm exprimenting with double tap and the MP5, it works ok but the ammo consumption is scary.
I rarely fire from the hip unless spooked coming around a corner in a last ditch effort not to die. Just a personal preference to stick with iron sites at all times.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
well I figure I don't need to give such a simple tip, but I know some people don't know it. I really advise anyone who wants to learn a gun should make a server and just start spraying into walls, from the hip and from sights. In my tests I've seen no pattern from the hip but both the 74 and mp5 have a up and hook around fire pattern from sights. Those two guns are also supposed to be statistically the same. This works for any game really although some games don't have recoil patterns.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
I found the recoil dynamics to be a bit screwy for the sniper rifles. Take the .50 cal. if you fire the shots in quick succession the first hits on target (obv) the next three jog up and to the right...and the rest of the clip is dead on like the first shot. If you play on doing some fast sniping you only need to compensate for those three mid shots and then you are free to put bullets where you please.
PS: This is only while scoped.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
Ya I found that too, quite funny really, m14 is another fun one, it would probably be the best gun in the game if you can compensate right. It has almost zero left right deviation while scoped just straight up by like 15 feet.

When a bullet leave the barrel of a gun it does not go straight, it moves up and then down. When in the Army and training on the M14 we were taught to zero our site, (when the bullet drops to where your sites are) at 200 meters. So to shoot something at 50 meters you had to aim at low. And move your up at different ranges. To hit the enemy at 300 meters you aimed a little high. At 200 meters you sited straight at the target. I'm probably not very clear on this so somebody help me out.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
Best example of this is ArmA. That game it is easy to see the way the bullet ''curves'' up then down. Of course I think its a little bit more extreme then in COD but I don't claim to be an expert.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...
First and formost, I stumbled upon this forum and I am ecstatic that I did.
I am of the minority, but I don't have many issues with the Sniper class. I am current level 25 (3rd Prestige), below are my "ideal" Classes: Green Beret (assault) - M16 is lethal for me w/o any help, so I use the m4 for CQB M-16 w/ Red Dot MP-5 w/ Red Dot Smoke Frag x3 Overkill Last Stand Marine Recon (sniper) - like I wrote above, i love sniping in this game (xbox360) Dragunov - i hate the Barrett G36k w/ Red Dot Smoke Claymores x2 Overkill - i would rather have 2 primaries, then find something I like on ground Iron Lungs - the best perk for sniping Delta Operator (general) - i use this a lot for getting out of slumps, also Domination M4 w/ Red Dot USP. 45 Flash C4 (for domination) Frag x3 (otherwise) Sleight of Hand (i seen mention this for LMG, but dont overlook Assault weapons) Extreme Conditioning |
