Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...

I found the recoil dynamics to be a bit screwy for the sniper rifles. Take the .50 cal. if you fire the shots in quick succession the first hits on target (obv) the next three jog up and to the right...and the rest of the clip is dead on like the first shot. If you play on doing some fast sniping you only need to compensate for those three mid shots and then you are free to put bullets where you please.

PS: This is only while scoped.

Ya I found that too, quite funny really, m14 is another fun one, it would probably be the best gun in the game if you can compensate right. It has almost zero left right deviation while scoped just straight up by like 15 feet.

When a bullet leave the barrel of a gun it does not go straight, it moves up and then down. When in the Army and training on the M14 we were taught to zero our site, (when the bullet drops to where your sites are) at 200 meters. So to shoot something at 50 meters you had to aim at low. And move your up at different ranges. To hit the enemy at 300 meters you aimed a little high. At 200 meters you sited straight at the target. I'm probably not very clear on this so somebody help me out.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...

Best example of this is ArmA. That game it is easy to see the way the bullet ''curves'' up then down. Of course I think its a little bit more extreme then in COD but I don't claim to be an expert.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...

Is there any benefit to using stopping power with an assault rifle in hardcore mode or is it essentially redundant?

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...

First and formost, I stumbled upon this forum and I am ecstatic that I did.

I am of the minority, but I don't have many issues with the Sniper class.

I am current level 25 (3rd Prestige), below are my "ideal" Classes:

Green Beret (assault) - M16 is lethal for me w/o any help, so I use the m4 for CQB
M-16 w/ Red Dot
MP-5 w/ Red Dot
Smoke
Frag x3
Overkill
Last Stand

Marine Recon (sniper) - like I wrote above, i love sniping in this game (xbox360)
Dragunov - i hate the Barrett
G36k w/ Red Dot
Smoke
Claymores x2
Overkill - i would rather have 2 primaries, then find something I like on ground
Iron Lungs - the best perk for sniping

Delta Operator (general) - i use this a lot for getting out of slumps, also Domination
M4 w/ Red Dot
USP. 45
Flash
C4 (for domination) Frag x3 (otherwise)
Sleight of Hand (i seen mention this for LMG, but dont overlook Assault weapons)
Extreme Conditioning

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...

My main two classes are as follows:

MP5 Silenced Red Tiger
M9 Silenced
Smoke Grenade
Bomb Squad - So I can see enemy explosives
UAV Jammer - So I don't come up on the radar

M40A3 Red Tiger
M9 Silenced
Stun Grenade
Claymore x2 - Protect me
Stopping power - Bullet damage is increased
Iron Lungs - Breath for longer
Dead Silence - So I can't be heard

I now basically play around with various set ups. I like to pick a new flavour of the week and keep a few standard kits as back up. I get bored using my "go to" kits all the time.

I have gotten that way too.

My standard kit is the Stealth Kit with the G3 silenced.

I am now going back and changing all of my kits to try different combos. Just to add a new look and sound to the already all too familiar game.

I like to try different kits sometimes. I sometimes die a lot, more than usual, while adjusting to them but it is still fun. Variety is the spice of life.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...

Great thread... A few questions -

I am wondering where the perk Stopping Power comes in most handy - on higher-powered rifles or on sub-machine guns. I see a lot of people here with it in this thread on SMG's, but in my experience, I notice the benefit more with the G3, M4, etc... with an abundance of one or two-shots. When I use it on SMG's I don't seem to notice a difference. It might just be a fluke, but maybe someone with more experience with the game can enlighten me!

Same goes for Deep Impact. Doesn't seem that it would make any difference on a high powered rifle, unless it increases the damage after passing through a wall. Are there any weapons that simply can't penetrate a stone or plaster wall, aside from pistols?

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...

I have had some luck with stopping power on all weapons. But I use it less and less now as an extra bullet will acomplish the same thing and other perks may hold more of an advantage.

Deep impact is a perk that I use frequently. I find it very helpfull for taking down pesky snipers. If they keep ducking behind a window frame it makes quick work of them. I don't use it on the SMG's usually because I don't feel like a 9mm should be going through brick walls.

One thing that also forces my hand a bit with deep impact is the fact that some weapons will not penetrate a paper bag without it. I have died before because I couldn't shoot through a wooden crate with the M4 - 5 feet away from the guy.

Re: CoD4 create-a-class discussion...

Thanks, that's great to know. I'll try that out.

Just to touch on a couple other things I have observed, I noticed the silencer on rifles makes it a helluva lot more difficult to hit things precisely at range. It seems like I can put the tip of the sight right over someones head and still not get a hit if I'm far enough away. And this was on the AK. I had to give up on having a fully "stealth" character last night while playing with my {SB} clanmates (UAV Block and silenced AK) because I was having such difficulty on Overgrown engaging people in the riverbed from long distance.

I have also recently been using the Sleight of Hand perk with the M16, which already has much faster reload time than most other rifles. It's amazing how quick it reloads! I find it to be a great perk for that weapon because of how quickly I seem to go through ammo with the 3-round burst. I also find the M16 to be very accurate, so if you can get your sight over someone's torso, one burst is usually enough.
