I had problems at first too... are you using Realtek onboard sound? If so, go to Realtek's site and download the latest drivers, do not get the ones from your motherboard mfr's site.

cleared the problem up for me

I have a sb card. I've downloaded all the newest drivers for the soundcard and vid card. I'll keep looking into it, but I just can't figure it out. All my other games play fine.

I thought maybe my drive was going bad, but I installed farcry last night and it runs fine.
The sound settings they are talking about are not the WAW ones but your system ones.

To get to these settings open control panel (make sure it's on classic view) and click on 'sound'. Then right click on you speakers and click the 'advanced tab', there is a drop down box where you can select 24 bit, 48000hz as described in that post.

Also is you are running x-fire while also running WAW try closing it, that was causing me some problems.

    Hope this helps.

This was fixed about three months ago. It was before the update that broke the sound options, as I tried changing those options to no avail. Another update from sb for vista is what fixed the problem.
