Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
The near simulation was both teams being tasked with assaulting and holding a specific objective. TDM was simply used as a sandbox because it allows the most flexibility when experimenting with different objectives, tasks or rules of engagement.
I think CTF had a lot more problems than the the TDM rounds with regard to folks following orders and completing the objective.
It's all about leadership and teamwork. I tried where I could to rein players in, get them to squad up, and play the objectives. A bunch of other folks were doing this as well, not just the admins. Don't be afraid to ask the lone wolves, by name, to work with the team.
This is a problem that happens with every game mode and not just when we're playing with some additional ad hoc rules.
You're entitled to your opinion. The fact is that folks did a really good job of informing newcomers of the rules of engagement like crouch only and what the objective was. I only kicked one person all night and that was for no time because they refused to squad up during CTF. When he returned he joined a squad as asked.
Technically, were we even playing TDM as most folks would think of it? I don't think so. We had a specific objective (FIRM target)for both sides, just like HQ, that also happened to be fixed(FIRM). Again, we used TDM simply as a sandbox.
WaW has some great maps that don't get used to their full potential in S&D. We've tried HQ and it can be a major pain with lots of spawn killing and folks not playing the objective. Last night was an opportunity to use different portions of the maps that hardly get used on S&D and create our own battlespace based on player input and requests.
I'm sorry you didn't have a better time.

I'll try to take a new view... TDM is going to have spawnkilling problems though...

Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
I enoyed the game play completely, the squads worked well, the comms were good, and it added new life to the game.
I hope we do it again

Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
I get your point Drona, and I will keep an open mind next time we play it. I do stand behind my opinion that TDM doesnt belong on any TG servers.

Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
You do know that TDM stands for TEAM death match..right?
And IMHO last nights rounds were the pinnacle of what TG can be..

Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
Micheal,
This isn't about argueing over whose right and whose wrong here. This is about is TDM style of play good for TG.
What I have been doing is trying to express a view point to which the admins possibly didn't consider.
They think that TDM can be played tactically, and I disagree. I have expressed my opinion, they disagree with me and so be it.
I stand behind my beliefs that TDM should not be played on TG servers. Having said that, I will accept that the admin team has decided that it can be played within TG SOPs and move on.
I would like to suggest that this thread be locked. I can not forsee anything that hasn't already be said being brought up.

Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
We tried out TDM and CTF for fun and tried to apply some TG spirit to them? Sounds to me like a fun way to create some variation and fun on our servers. Way to go!
As to what fits into TG. I feel you can fit just about everything into TG as long it involves some sort of talking teamwork and communication.

Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
Chef, think about it as C&HTO (Capture & Hold The Objective). Never heard about anyone doing that, oh, heard of Hamburger Hill?

Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
I would like to add though, tonight was more TDM with NO tactical point what so ever. The TG team was using good comms yet no one was talking on the other side. Even when prompted too by myself.
I still think if you want to use TDM, you need to fine tune it ALOT more.

Re: TDM and CTF on tg server
I have to agree with Chef here. TDM for TDM's sake, with a bunch of pubs on is just mayhem. Roundhouse with pistols and flamethrowers was fun, but no tactical point to it. Same with Seelow. I think it's fun once in a while but I don't think it should be in the regular rotation.
That said, I have no prob with using TDM as a sandbox when we have players that will abide by the temp rules of engagement/objectives.
