    Tonight

Hey every buddy hope we are playing tonight, I let major killin and the sob guys know since we tested some new custom maps last night. We found some real nice maps, so now I just have 2 add the grid 2 them so I guess there will be a small update. But it only will take me about 5 mins to do the grids on the new maps. Once im done The admins can go to our download section on the sog site and DL what ever maps that they want to put in.
I'm going to try to stay on top of the new maps that come out so we always have good maps to play. I'm off to my moms house But I should be back around 5 pac. See you guy's then.

I might be there to play, but I have enrolled in the TGU Basic Infantry class. That starts around 9pm EST I think.

Flamer and 357 is the best combo in the game!

Also Krag you got to do something about the 3 foot leg breaks!

    Ladders are instant killers!

    Re: Tonight

It is not 3 feet it is how ever 9 feet which is really on edge as far as realism goes. As people break there habits of unrealistic jumping you tend to break your leg alot less.
as yes i have had this arrugment with a sog guy. and heres how it goes.

Take a backpack and fill it so it has 50 pounds. then find something about id say atleast 10 pounds to pretend its your gun. now get some one to take video of you cause we need proof. climb up on the roof of a house which is about 9 feet now run and jump off of it once you land and you can keep running around the block I will change it

( please note this is an example and i dont suggest any one try this and i will not be held liable if you hurt yourself.)

I have seen men fall about 8 feet from a ladder and end up in the hospital so yes this is very realistic.

Seelow barn ladder 3rd rung up move to the right or left to get off and see what happens.

    And for realism....

You dont carry 50 pounds of kit in your ruck into combat. I know for fact.

There are these great things called assembly areas and those are areas where each platoon leaves its gear to go and conduct an operation with its basic combat load.

I appreciate your attempt at realism but at some point some of who do this for a living like a like fun in our "games" unlike most who chose not to support and defend.

    Re: Tonight

ok i just did it and had no leg breaks I simple counted the rung hieght there is 8 total on the ladder the hieght of the player looks to be about 5 rungs so what I did is went till the top rung was eye level and like you said went to the left and right I did not break my leg. You may have been much higher then you think.
Here is how it works the map editor has squares now each little square eqauls an inch and a 108 inches equals 9 feet so by setting it to 108 sqaures that is 9 feet. The jump height is 34 or 36 sqaures basiclly 3 feet .So if you are six feet up and then jump you are now at nine feet . I'm not saying you jumped im just letting every one know how it works. So if you just walk off something 8 feet you shouldnt get a broken leg. But in real life walking off something at 8 feet im sure you will feel it.and Yes I'm sure there are bugs that you may still break your leg at lower hieghts but for the most part im pretty sure the computer is accruate with the hieghts. Now ladders are another thing and that is the map maker not doing the ladder right or the game engine take your pick. When I made my cod4 map I tested ladders over and over till I felt it was good and some people still fell from the top .

now we can go back and forth about whats real whats not. Having to bring up youre iron sites at a few feet away from the enemy to hit them isnt realistic . But you need to balance game play, realism, and the limitations of the game engine. And its not going to make every one happy all the time.

Since you might know I want to know something on average how many weapon clips does the average soldier carry on his person. Cause I dont know and I'm trying to find out, for hand gun and rifle.

As far as the backpack goes take it off but I'm willing to bet that there is a higher percent of people that will get hurt .

Any time you want to help me with the modding im up for it since im the only one working on it. Then you could work on the scripting and I can work on one of the many other things that goes into modding .I almost have everything you would need uploaded to our website. And most if not all are freeware programs.

P.S. I did take xfire video of the fall but I'm waiting to get some of some else on the ladder to verify the height .

That ladder on Seelow is all screwed up, never broken my leg off the third rung though.

I find your last statement ironic, and a slight jab at krag, but that's just me. =D

    Re: Tonight

All jesting aside it wasnt meant to be a jab in fact I wish I had more time to delve into the modding aspect of the game. Krag has done a mind boggling good job of the mod and I salute his efforts. It has actually made COD5 a more sim like style of play and rather than waiting hours on end to play on Armed Assault I am more inclined to support the SOG mod without question.

After seeing the response to the 3rd rung the only thing I have surmised is that I must have hit the jump to get off the ladder on the 3rd rung because I went back again to try and do it and only got the break when I jumped off from the 3rd rung.

Krag thanks for your efforts as well as the offer to help. I wish I had the spare time to do what you do! Since the start of the new year I've been conducting road shows from coast to coast pitching a $55 million project to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and at the same time trying to finish my master by the end of June!! I'm officially now a sporadic player and contributor to TG.com and with real life I dont have the time that I used to devote to this corner of my passing hobbies. Once the winds of change blow out the excremental residue of this particular niche of TG I hope to be available on a more frequent basis.

As far as a basic combat load goes its changed since WWII to what we carry now.

Shoot me a message and I can get you specifics on what a rifle company of today looks like for basic combat load. But for a basic grunt heres a snap shot:

    Worn on Body/Uniform:
    • M4 Carbine with PEQ-2 Laser/PAQ-4 Laser, ACOG/CCO, and 30 rounds of 5.56mm ball ammunition.
    • Camouflage Uniform with Infrared Tape on left sleeve (1”x1”).
    • Desert Combat Boots.
    • Dog Tags.
    • ID Card.

    • Notebook and pen.
    • Watch.
    • Knee and elbow pads.
    • Sun, Sand, and Dust type Goggles or Wiley-X Goggles.
    • Folding Knife/Multi-tool

Worn on Fighting Load Carrier/Interceptor Body Armor:
    • MOLLE Fighting Load Carrier with modular MOLLE pouches.
    • 180 rounds of 5.56mm ball ammunition.
    • Bayonet. • Fragmentation grenade.
    • 64 ounces of water in two 1-quart canteens.
    • 100 ounces of water in a hydration bladder.
    • Casualty and witness cards.
    • Flex cuffs for personnel under custody.
    • Night vision equipment (PVS-14/PVS-7 mission dependent).
    • Lensatic compass.
