Community submited Tips
I'm hoping this thread will explode with tips and tricks from the WaW SOG mod players. My intent is to help educate all of the players (even me!) on how to be successful and have a good time on the server. And, don't be stingy with your secrets to success! Education for the win!
Here are a few tips to get this started:
Hold Breath
I notice a few players that have problems hitting anything with their primary weapon. I think most times this is caused by rushing your shot. To be successful in taking down your target at medium range, crouch (or prone), as this reduces your weapon sway by a good bit. For the long shots, press and hold your USE (f by default) key while crouched or prone. This will make you hold your breath and completely remove weapon sway for a short time. Hold breath also works with pistols!
Stealth!
Noise travels pretty far in WaW and can completely ruin the attackers plan. To keep from being heard, pick the Stealth perk. This greatly reduces the noise from your footsteps while walking or climbing ladders/vines/etc. If you use another perk in place if Stealth, CROUCH. Granted, you will move slower but, the enemy won't hear you approach. This gives you a good chance to spot an enemy before they spot you, allowing you to take your time with your shot.
Tanks
With the way the tanks have been implemented in the SOG mod, they pretty much require infantry support. Currently, 2 sticky nades/2 'zooka rounds/PTRS-41 shots to the engine compartment take out a tank lickity split! The tank driver has a hard time getting a 360 degree view with how slowly the turret rotates and hence, the problem. Have a sniper or recon move with the tank to watch its flanks and to help spot for the enemy tank. Generally, the team with the last running tank wins. Support your armor!
Check those corners!
I see quite a few players walking down a hallway or street, never looking side to side. I know from a lot of experience, thats where people generally get shot from. So, instead of taking a Sunday walk through the park, act like a soldier and check around corners before walking past. Yes, you will move forward much slower. But, you are more valuable alive and aiding your team.
Flanking vs. Tactical Flanking
Yes, flanking is allowed as most of us know. But, just because it is not against the rules, does not mean you should just blurt out "I will flank to the north!" and rush off. Wait for your Squad Leader to formulate a plan and follow it. If you like flanking, make sure it's OK with the SL, so he/she can work it into the plan. Not to mention, with your flanking manuver known by the SL and the rest of your team, you are less likely to be a victim of friendly fire.
So, what tips are you willing to share?

Thanks for this post!!
I will be reading each helpful hint and trying to learn from them. As a new player to this game I find myself letting my squad down from not knowing what to do, as opposed to not wanting to do what I'm supposed to be doing.
So if you see me straying please put me back on track!!
Thanks Todd

Re: Community submited Tips
On tank maps if you are recon help your tank driver with updates on where the enemy tank is. Make sure to get the bazooka perk to kill the enemy tank.

one tip is to make sure your medic is alive whether tahts shooting him in the hand so that he drops his gun just so he can stay out of the fight. Some medics get a littly trigger finger itchy and try to join the fight. Keep him safe without him you are dead. Also when you get knocked into Last stand or wahtever SCREAM THE POSITION of the guy who shot you but dont really scream...
We're not retreating, we're advancing in another direction

Just to add to the Recon suggestion... it IS one of the most important classes in the game/mod. If you choose Recon, and you hear arty coming in, pull up your map and call out the targeted area, this will save your teammates lives, and possibly give you the win on the round. An arty strike that isn't successful is a big advantage to the opposing team!

I got an oldie but a goody; if your familiar the cod2 than you know this.
Gun barrels stick out of windows, walls, and sometimes floors. You your self can not tell. Feet can sometimes too do this so just be aware of this if your too close. You may need someone to spot you on this so you get an idea of how far away from a window, or wall to stand.I want my... I want my STG 44 That Krag took out!!!!!!

Re: Community submited Tips
I always choose the medic class, and i've learned that a good medic should stay within a good running distance of almost everyone. And when you get there, don't go straight for the heal...pop a smoke or something to cover you as you heal.
Now for me secret!
Once you shoot someone and they're down on the ground...DO NOT SHOOT EM!! Wait for a stupid medic to pop his head out. Take out a medic and there's no one to heal anyone else.

Recon: On the tank maps, find a nice quiet spot-under cover where the enemy won't hear you accessing your map and where you won't be overrun-and just sit there with your map open. You will not be able to really be in the fight and perform this role effectively. I don't go after the enemy tank unless we lose ours - hopefully your team also has a demo guy to help your tank kill the other teams tank. Give frequent updates on tank movement. Use the grid!. As was stated previously, make sure you tell your team where arty is going to hit and where the dogs are.
The Grid: Always take a moment to orient to the map grid. After a while, you will be able to call out grid coords you can't see on your minimap without pulling up the big map. You will also have a much better idea of where contacts are being reported.

Re: Community submited Tips
Good tip Drona. I would like to expand a little on it tho.
When you have your map open, you will not be able to talk via in-game VoIP. So, remember the grid # of the enemy tank or artillery, close your map, then call out the position.

Re: Community submited Tips
I think the biggest thing that should be worked on is comms, do you see movement? Call it out, taking fire? Call it out. Don't be silent on the mic all the time. Useless chatter can be saved for after you're done with the round, but people really need to up their comms. If you are put into last stand your comms still work, call out your location, and any other information you have.
Also patience on defense. Too much movement will get you killed. If you are guarding a bombsite the only real movement should be to take cover, or assist a teammate. We shouldn't be seeing movement in the middle of the map, abandoning our posts and running to get the kill, they will come to you, they have to.
