COD: Mumble
i wanted to put this in the suggestion box, but i also wanted its own thread.
for those of you who do not know about mumble, it is a sister program of sorts along the likes of TS. TS allows us to communicate while we are dead and so that we can talk to other people on the other teams. Mumble takes this to a whole new level.
so really it is TS on steroids. you would be able to talk to not only your team but the other team would be able to here you if you were close enough to them. i think especially on the SOG mod, this would be a neat thing to try and implement.Example: when you have teammates next to you who might not be in your squad, you can chat with them right then and there. There is so much less "voice spam" as I have experienced lately on TS, and the way the SL channel is set up makes it a lot easier in some regards to SL Leadership. Plus everyone's voice seems a lot clearer, and its another aspect that immerses you more into the game.
according to the games it supports, both of the COD titles that are actively played here at TG are supported!
what are peoples thoughts

Re: COD: Mumble
Sounds great! Mumble has been used very effectively in the Project Reality community, it would be great to see it round these parts!
Also to clarify; Mumble uses a 3D positional audio system which means that the further away from the person talking you are, the quieter they will be. Also if they are behind you they will be quieter. It can be very useful and fun to use.
There is a lot of Mumble related info in the PR forums, take a look over there to see some examples of how it is used.|TG-189th|PaintScratcher - 189th Infantry Brigade'It’s one of the characteristics of a leader that he not doubt for one moment the capacity of his men to realize whatever he’s dreaming'

Re: COD: Mumble
They had that in another WWII game Red October and I didn't care for it. It may have been just the game itself. One thing is the enemy shouldn't be able to understand what they say, ex German don't speak Russian and visa verse

Re: COD: Mumble
I think that, in theory, this would be fun to check out. But, I also remember the problems introduced on the CoD4 servers when the Eavesdrop perk was enabled. It made the game less fun, because you had to constantly take your hands away from your primary controls to type messages that you did not what the enemy team to overhear. And that was causing problems because so many players were getting killed while typing.

Re: COD: Mumble
I looked over the current PR poll thread and it seemed a mixed bag for reviews.
There have been plenty of times when I only needed to communicate with the guy next to me and not the whole team and this would come in handy.
The eavesdrop potential has me leaning away from it. It was really a game killer even if only one of their players ran it. Mumble would have everyone with the capability to eavesdrop unless I missed something.
Before adding a new piece of technology I would ask if the problems it might solve can be addressed through training or different comms behavior.
It's a good idea overall though.

Re: COD: Mumble
i just think that it would add that add bonus to the gameplay. IMO the eavesdrop perk was not used how it should, mumble on the other hand is like a real battle just my two cents

Re: COD: Mumble
Cant you set it up as one side is one team and the other is the other team. The only problem is that you would have to alt tab out each time to set it up.

It sure sounds interesting, until you remember that there will be "people" that will take any advantage they can..and ruin it for everyone else...

Re: COD: Mumble
Good News..
Mumble is coming to the USA..
some concerns about eavesdropping, channels can be set into teams then squads, no cross talk will be heard..
if you want to make it more private turn off the overlay, but you can still keep the 3d positional audio..
I'm the USA Mumble Rep..
we have a server up if you guys would like to test it, I'll be happy to make you channels so you can judge for yourself just how good this product is..
here's a link to download and to the USA Support server..

Re: COD: Mumble
wow thanks Indian, that helps a lot.
What are the chances of having the US mumble rep on the forums?

Re: COD: Mumble
Okay so let's give this a try. It appears that Indian has addressed the same concerns I see mentioned in this post.
I don't see the difference between a client download and a server download in what Indian posted."The mind stretched to a new concept can never return to it's orginal dimension."
"What the mind can conceive and believe..... it can achieve."
