Mixed mode night?
Hey gang. I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout last night with the server set to HQ(with no prior notice mind you). It drew in several pub players and we had a nice 5v5 going for a good while. It was also nice to play some of the stock maps and actually get to use the whole battlespace.
We've been bouncing around the idea of doing Mixed Mode Mondays to try and draw some new folks to the server. I'd like to get folks thoughts on this.
Here are the modes we can pick from:
// "ch" - capture and hold
// "ctf" - capture the flag
// "dom" - domination
// "koth" - headquarters
// "sab" - sabotage
// "sd" - search & destroy
// "twar" - war
We can choose from any of the custom maps (provided the map supports the gametype) as well as any of the stock maps. The maps on the server are listed in the stickies.
Let's get some combo ideas out this weekend then I'll put together a rotation and we can give a try on Monday night. Thanks for any input.

Here is a list of maps in the current rotation culled from the sticky Drona mentioned. I have went through and listed the game modes supported on the custom maps.
I am pretty sure all maps support DM and TDM. Nice work MK. That's going to help a lot. In the absence of replies with map/mode combo suggestions, I'll do my best to put together a satisfactory rotation for this coming Monday night, the 12th. We'll do CoD4 mixed next Monday night, the 19th.

I'm pretty disappointed that no-one wanted to jump at this opportunity to help shape the future of our servers. If you have an idea for a game mode on just a couple of maps, post them up! Nobody is going to bite your head off if your suggestion doesn't work out. You may become the butt of a few jokes, but no head-bitting-off, I promise!
One thing we should all be aware of... any game mode that allows for respawns is going to be a faster paced game with less tactics, compared to what we are used to. This is not to say that this is a bad thing. Just different.
Anyways, here is my list of suggestions:
Downfall - KOTH or TWAR
Subway - I like CTF on this map, but KOTH might be fun or a TDM might work
Outskirts - maybe DOM or KOTH. Even SAB might be fun
Airfield - KOTH or TWAR
506th - I like this one on SD. Perhaps just some mover magic?
Akushima - DOM or KOTH
Argentan - TDM or DM
Kwalajein - KOTH or SAB
Myths_farm - KOTH
Newvillers2 - KOTH or DOM
Wdocks - SAB or DOM
Stalemate - DOM or TWAR
Panzerfact - any of the game modes would be fun on this map I think
Foy - SAB
Gtwon44 - KOTH or TWAR
Derailed - TDM or KOTH
Railyard - SAB or KOTH
Kola_ww - Drona, you should pick this one.
SFSS_Castle - We really havent explored this map much. Leave it SD I think
Nuenen - KOTH
Bessie - SD only map
Corregidor - TWAR or SAB
Bgate - TDM, KOTH, CTF
Drum - TDM, KOTH, CTF
Vodka - TDM, KOTH, CTF
Gustav - I don't remember this map
Trenchtoast - I dont think we we have played this map yet, leave it on SD

Can you give us some idea which apps provide relatively safe spawn points? I know the map we played CTF with the bridge was a lot of fun but I don't know the map name.

I chose not to respond not because I had no interest in it, but because I'm happy to play whatever map and mode show up. Hell, I don't even know half the maps that are on the server, and I certainly don't know any of the maps (stock or otherwise) that AREN'T currently on the server.
Besides, I probably won't be playing tonight because my dad's in town :P

I am not familiar enough with the maps to know which ones would work with what game type. But I love the idea of mixing it up.
Here are the game types I think we should try to stick with

Like Balfa though I am cool with whatever is chosen, once I get a change to play some mixed modes with our maps I am sure I will have opinions about them. Its just hard to picture a map, where the spawns are and how a certain game type will work on it for me.

There are 51 maps on the server including both custom and stock. Try as I may to be all knowing, I'm not familiar with every spawn point for every gametype for every map. Spawn protection will be enabled though. If we find out that a map has bad spawns for a gametype then we just won't run that map again in that mode.

I think it may be cool to get a handfull of people on the server, and jump around from map to map checking out the different game types etc, then pick some to lock in for the next mix-monday...

Sure Cap. It will probably depend on how many folks show. If it's not a large turnout and folks don't mind, I think it's a good idea.

dont think this will work out...... seems to me that its a free for all TDM with no objectives in mind.... i for one dont like... i think this is a great idea but seems that most of us cant comprehend objectives so this might not work

Well, it seemed to work well. The folks here aren't familiar with all the modes but with some coaching folks picked up on it. The last round on Gtown44 started out poorly for our team but we got it organized and the game ended up being really close. The Sabotage rounds were a lot more fun than I expected.
Please give us feedback if you got a chance to play. We're going to look at tweaking some of the settings to further improve game play.
Next Monday's mixed mode night will be CoD4

Welp, the server just emptied out after our Mixed Mode day and, I must say, I had a FREAKING BLAST!
Yes, there is run-n-gun. Yes, sometimes the objectives are forgotten for a moment. And, yes, it was total carnage. Now, with all that said, I believe it turned out far better than we expected. For the most part, everyone was attempting to follow the objectives. It was just difficult sometimes on unfamiliar maps, not to mention, never playing these game modes on most maps. Once everyone got up to speed, the action came fast and furious, and we proved that tactics can be used in a RnG enviornment.
We all have to remember that this is mostly new to the CoD series here at TG, and therefore, we just aren't used to this style of play. But, we are doing this, I think (correct me if I am wrong Drona), to make our servers more attractive to the general public. We had three random people join and play with us. Granted, thats not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but better than what we generally expect.
All in all, I call this a resounding success and can't wait for next Monday.

I think mp_ax_dawnville is a little small for sabotage. The objective behind the church is relatively close to where the defending team spawns and if the attackers try and set up a perimeter on that side it gets sketchy. We'll try a different map for sab next time.
