Re: PTBS BTS: The Gathering Storm - Signup

Well I still vote for patching. I wouldn't bother with the Solver patch. It says it will cause version issues unless everyone is on it (unlike Bhuric's). But it doesn't do much anyway. Just two things missed in the official patch. One regarding Tanks getting a very minor barrage effect (less than catapults) and one regarding SP if you play without Espionage.

Re: PTBS BTS: The Gathering Storm - Signup

Well, I would have first suggested that everyone stay unpatched for a week or so and we could continue the game while they sort out the bugs and unofficial patches. Unfortunately it looks like Hoplo already patched, so maybe we should place the game on hold for a few days. By then we should know if Firaxis issues a minor fix or we should use Solver's patch.

In today's world of awesome mods, I am all about unofficial patches. I've used Bhruic's for months and love it. I also play many mods (such as PR) and these "volunteers" definitely know what they're doing (and are often better at it than the paid guys).

Thoughts?
Tim

Oh good, Hoplo can double install and still play.

No one else patch until the dust settles. That way we can continue our game. When things are figured out, then yes, I also recommend patching. I like some of the things that they changed and fixed.

I vote for starting the game over and get me away from the Persians.

copying does work, sortof (civ resets all your preferences every time you change from one install to the other). However, i'm dealing with constant "HD is full" warnings, and I had to scrape to get the space already, so theres nothing else to be removed.

If this game isn't patched soon, I'll be leaving, its not worth the annoyance.

You should be able to work around this by having it use a different .ini file for each install. I know I've done this in the past successfully. It's also handy if you are in multiple games since you can create a unique .ini file for each with different default IP addresses to connect to.

If you need help making it happen let me know and I'll see if I can dig up some instructions.

4 Gigs is nothing compared to the size and price of hard drives you can get these days. If you're that tight for space maybe an additional drive is in order.

I'll start getting a patched update for the TG server ready but I'm not making any promises as to when I'll pull the trigger and make it happen. Quite honestly I'm surprised so many other servers would patch so quickly given the track record of Civ 4 patches. Normally the Firaxis guys introduce quite a few bugs. lol

Re: PTBS BTS: The Gathering Storm - Signup

Despite potential bugs in the patches, I would be pro-patch as well.

If only because ... it is the most recent patch and... it does patch a lot of (usefull??) stuff.

Allready now not "2 days" after the appearence there is Solvers patch.... which shows that the 3.17 patch is far from perfect yet

Thats a pretty obnoxious statement for someone who doesn't know ANYTHING about my financial situation. You wanna mail me the $40 bucks for even a cheap new drive? Cause I sure the **** don't have it.

We know that you're playing games on the internet instead of working another job...

Let's not get all huffy, though. Perhaps we shouldn't make assumptions about others' financial situation, but we certainly shouldn't be using foul language in the forums.

lol Yes, I deserve that. However, in the event that was the case I already had an idea brewing in the back of my head. I'll PM ya.

I don't see the rush personally if there is a work around for the people that patched already.

I can't download Fireaxis patches but I think this patch is availabe at Direct2drive too. (If you didn't know: Everyone that bought BTS with digital download at Direct2drive.com can not patch from Fireaxis. They have to get a patch from Direct2drive for some reason.)

Re: PTBS BTS: The Gathering Storm - Signup

I noticed that x-fire automatically downloaded the patch for me. I didn't install it (because of all the reasons talked about above), but when the time comes that might be an easy way to download it for those that have x-fire.

I apologize if you took that personally. I meant it to be a light hearted jest. Sorry.
