So I guess I can't play this game anymore and you'll have to boot me to AI.
May I ask why you won't dual install under any circumstances? All it takes is some extra disk space and is a fairly simple process. And by the way, if you are refusing to dual install then it really doesn't matter how much notice you got does it?

We've had various discussions going on about upgrading ever since the 3.19 patch came out. Personally, I was resistant to it initially since TTT was still running and updating the TG Civ4 server would be a real pain. However, even with TTT done the feeling I got was that everyone was ok with continuing as is. However, now with it interfering with our ability to bring in subs that's as good a reason as any to move forward and likely for the majority of our player base, remove the need for dual installs completely.

I'll try to hold off until I hear back from you and see if we can resolve whatever issue would be forcing you to leave the game.

Re: Fog of War --- Server Problems

Well this is the first I've heard of a discussion to upgrade, unless you all were doing so in other threads. I currently am primarily only playing two games. This one, and another one. The only other game I'm in I'm about to be eliminated in, so doesn't matter.
The other game which is currently based over on Parkinsworld is the game that is more important to me. I'm not going to have dual installs simply for two games I'm involved in.
I've just posed the suggestion of upgrading the other one, but I'm sure it'll be awhile before there is a concensus, if there is one at all. Especially since the host of that one is hosting multiple games, so he probably has to be ready to upgrade them all. If I had known at least a week or more ago that you were planning on upgrading, I'd have brought it up back then.

In any case, if you upgrade, please kick me to AI right away rather than letting the civ sit idle for a bunch of turns. If my other game decides to upgrade then I can come back, otherwise you'll need to find a replacement.

Again, you never really mention why this is such a problem. You make a copy of your main installation folder prior to patching and then copy your launch shortcut and edit it to point to the copied 3.17 install. Easy. Cost is under 4 GB of disk space.

Ok. Someone else had offered to sub for Dreylin so I'll tag them. I also think someone else needed a sub so I'll see if AFSoccer can back them up or replace as needed.

Re: Fog of War --- Server Problems

The server is now on 3.19. The NoScore mod has not been changed.

If you need the patch, you can find it at:

Let me know if you encounter any issues.

Hmm...encountered that problem I see once in a blue moon where it complains about not being able to do the autosave file for someone logging in; in this case it was yours.

Server should be available again.

Re: Fog of War --- Server Problems

I went ahead and logged in and paused the game. There is 1:56 on the timer.

Please continue to keep it paused until everyone has had a chance to do their 1070 AD turn.

It would also be a good idea, for those who haven't done so already, to log onto the server and make sure you can connect without issues.

Re: Fog of War --- Server Problems

What was the final conclusion here? I did find a sub (plako) who can fill in for Dreylin on V3.17 for now. Any chance of going back to V3.17 for a week or two to give HAK a chance to work through anyt dual install issues, or find a permanent replacement?

I'd really not appreciate kicking HAK to AI for all the usual reasons - existing deals, dumb and unpredicatble AI etc. (He's one of my neighbours). If we're moving to V3.19 anyway then finding a replacement in the long term (if that's even necessary) shouldn't be too hard.

Is that an option? Or is there anyone who's already upgraded to V3.19 and didn't keep a dual install?

BTW - it's not even 4Gb of disk space that's needed, since the main Civ folder (and the Warlords folder) haven't changed. It's only the BtS Folder that's changed.

So just need to take a backup copy of the Firaxis Games > Sid Meier's Civilization 4 > Beyond The Sword folder, upgrade, then move the copy back into the Civ 4 folder (and call it BtSV3.17 or similar) and you're good to go on either version.

That folder by itself is only about 1.7 Gb I think. If disk space is an issue, there is always the option of a USB flash drive which are pretty cheap nowadays. I use the Kingston Data Traveller series - a 4Gb USB drive goes for a little over $10 on amazon, and works well for this.

Cheers

Re: Fog of War --- Server Problems

I've just sent a VERY long and detailed PM to plako. He'll be able to log in (hopefully this turn as it just started) to play for me and has pretty much all the info he needs regarding all the current diplomacy that has been happening, unless I forgot anything. And he can obviously still ask me anything that he's unsure about.

I'd like to go ahead with 3.19 barring a major issue of some kind.

It sounds like HAK is set up with plako as his sub; I don't think either want it to be a permanent replacement so I hope HAK will be back ASAP.

I PM'd with Emperor and he appears have a possible replacement lined up for when he has to leave.

Dreylin sounded like he had a sub lined up (not plako) who could take over if we were on 3.19.

In theory we should be ok as far as subs go. There are a couple of people I can ask if anyone is still looking.

I'm hoping it is still an option if needed. I don't anticipate it will be but better to be safe than sorry for the next week or so.

Re: Fog of War --- Server Problems

To anyone that would do Diplomacy to me for the moment, please either send all Diplomacy through Civstats or use the PM system on here (and you can copy plako if you want). I will be continuing to manage all diplomacy, with plako essentially being the turn-player for right now. With any luck my other game will be patching within a week and then I would be back into playing this one fully.
Thx

Re: Fog of War --- Server Problems

My other games are scheduled to upgrade on Tuesday, so hopefully as of then I'll be back to playing my own turns. Having plako able to do so in the meantime has been a great help.

Louis XXIV will be taking over me from this point onwards, as I'm heading off to Germany tomorrow morning.
