Re: New Pitboss Game Discussion (Jun 30/09)
Hi All,
I would love to sign up as soon the time comes.
I play SP on noble and basically win all the time, will probably move to Prince sometime soon. Played only a 3 MP games, all of which were extremely short. (my first game i got taken out embarrasingly early)
So prctically no MP expirience.

I've almost got the new mod ready to try. I'm just waiting for a reply back from Niklas on how to adjust this "knownciv" modifier. I did find a "iNoTechTradeModifier" in the handicap settings which is set to 20 at Deity level and 100 at Settler. Perhaps that is it? There's also a "iTechTradeKnownModifier" as well which starts off at 100 at Settler and falls to 0 by Noble.
For anyone who is familiar with the BUFFY mod using in GOTM, do you think it's worth integrating our changes into that? BUFFY I believe does not do any game play changes...it's simply a means of providing more information on what is happening under the hood (so to speak).
If anyone has info or opinions on either of these please reply.

Re: New Pitboss Game Discussion (Jun 30/09)
Hi guys
I confirm I'd like to join, teaming with Rusten (who would then only play ), if it's OK...
As a pitboss noob, I will go with any options/settings the experienced guys decide on.
Cheers,
Raskolnikov

Re: New Pitboss Game Discussion (Jun 30/09)
There was some discussion about knownciv modifiers recently in the BetterAI discussion forum.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=331141
Quote:
Tech diffusion
In Civ4, you receive a 30%/n bonus to research rate for every civ you've met which already knows the tech you're researching, where n is the number of civs alive in the game.
In BBAI 0.80, the formula is more complex, but here are the important points:
- Diplomatic status matters, so open borders make tech diffuse much more quickly.
- There is no longer a normalization by number of civs alive in the game, instead the added bonus for each additional civ who already knows the tech gets smaller and smaller.
This second change was made for two reasons: 1) Tech now diffuses the same early on a 2-player island on a big map as it does on a Duel map. 2) If one player pulls ahead of the pack, there's a stronger bonus to pull along the other players.
In addition, a tech welfare program was added to help out civs who fall far behind. Civs who are behind by several techs in the mid game or later now get a percentage boost based on how far behind they are. This was added to help keep smaller civs and others which can't keep up in research at least technologically relevant, so your tanks should see fewer archers and longbowman now
Several variables for controlling these features have been added to GlobalDefinesAlt.xml.

Sounds like what we need, especially the "tech welfare" part, you might try talking to jdog5000 on CFC

Re: New Pitboss Game Discussion (Jun 30/09)
Just a quick update for those eagerly awaiting the signup topic.
I'm still trying to get the first crack at the mod finalized since I want to have a test server ready to go at the time that signups start.
I sent jdog a PM at CFC and am waiting for a response.

Well, I'm not getting a response from anyone to finish up this mod so what I'm thinking is that we just play a normal non-mod game perhaps at Noble difficulty. What do you guys think?

Ok...I think the game start has dragged on for long enough so I made the call to use the new mod (called SUC319). Here's what it includes: - Barbarian events have been removed although that doesn't affect the PitSuc game since it has no events.
- Deity level AI behaves as per Noble. This removes any advantage a person could gain by turning their nation over to the AI (either temporarily or permanently). Research is normal Deity rate.
- Huts pop out techs limited to the first 2 columns in the tech tree.
I will distribute a new version of the mod if I get some info which allows us to do something about narrowing tech leads.
A test server is now up and running. A new topic has been created for this so please check it out and try connecting to the server.
I hope to get the signup topic created tomorrow and we are looking at roughly an Oct 1 start date.

Re: New Pitboss Game Discussion (Jun 30/09)
A couple of updates.
First, as you have likely noticed, the signup topic is now up. I'm going to add another signup question that asks if you only want to do the advisor role. I know there are a few veterans who may have time to help someone but not full out participation in another game.
Second, I got a reply from jdog @ CFC and there will be another version of the SUC319 mod coming out soon which has a research adjustment in it.

Re: New Pitboss Game Discussion (Jun 30/09)
Just over a week until the scheduled game start!
Signups so far have been light so please sign up ASAP if you are at all interested. If there isn't enough interest I may just end up postponing the game.
A reminder to all our veteran players that this game is an attempt to bring more players into our midst and increase the size of our Civ4 community. Unless you're planning on completely quitting tomorrow, it's in your own best interest to put on the advisor hat and help the newer players get settled in.
I've only advertised at CFC so far so if you know of other sites with potential recruits then please go ahead and post there.

Re: New Pitboss Game Discussion (Jun 30/09)
I've posted in the CFC thread about this but I'd like to join this game if I can. Problem I have is lack of time IRL so I really like the idea of playing with a team mate.
I've not played a huge about of pitboss games but hopefully there are enough people on here who've played with me to make a judgement on whether I classify as a n00b or a veteran

The only change was an adjustment to the research modifier for known techs. This should make it easier for those behind in tech to be able to catch up.
