Re: Pitboss Succession --- Server Problems

I always get that different version message ... probably because I have about 300 assets errors according to the HoF Assets checker ... but I can still play.

Understood. I left him a message at CFC so let's give him a day to respond.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. Restarting the server obviously didn't help and no one else appears to be having difficulties at this point.

The only thing I can think of to try is to restart the game from the original save file just on the off chance something in the recent save files has gotten corrupted. That seems like a long shot though.

Re: Pitboss Succession --- Server Problems

pianoman, have you tried clearing your customassets folder?

/mydocuments/mygames/beyondthesword. Rename the customassets folder inside that. Try to login again. If that doesn't work, close civ and try renaming the whole beyondthesword folder.

Maybe some "errors" or assets difference are critical, and some are not? Are all assets in use for all games, for example?

Has pianoman tried re-downloading and reinstalling the mod? If so, then a way we could potantially test his BTS install would be to have him try to download and start one of the CFC BOTM games (after downloading and installing the BUFFY mod) ... if he gets errors trying to open the BOTM, then maybe his BTS has gone bad?

Unfortunately, nothing has worked. I am unable to dl the BUFFY mod as it is an .exe file and I am on a mac. If nothing else works, i may not be able to participate in this game.

Re: Pitboss Succession --- Server Problems

Is there now a BTS for Mac, or do you have to run a windows virtural machine (or some such thing?) Remind me, you were able to log in before the turn 1 reload, but not since? So at one point, everything worked fine to get in with the SUC319B mod, but then not since?

I assume you can run SP BTS games just fine, with and without the SUC319b mod? Are there any other pitboss games you need to connect to, and if so, is that working?

There is a BtS for Mac, and pianoman was able to log in the game on the first turn only and play.

I was PM'ing with Turd Ferguson and he mentioned he is still seeing the "hang on finishing" problem although 3 or 4 repeated attempts and he is able to get in. Is anyone else having similar issues?

Pianoman may be our first Mac player so I don't know if this is a bug related to that or if the mod itself might have a genuine problem.

The only potential solution I can think of at this point is to restart the game without the mod and see if that makes any difference. But I'd only do this if enough players thought it was a good idea. I'd hate to lose Pianoman as a player but there are over 20 of us to consider.

Another option is to start a parallel pitboss instance on your server (on another port) for pianoman to try connecting to - if that works it might be worth restarting the game.

(Hypothetical - are there any cached files pitboss uses that could be cleared? windows/temp, windows/user/local settings/temp, civ folder tree...)

That's an excellent idea. I'll try to get that set up today.

Hmmm...no idea. I'll see if I can dig up some info.

I wondered because the BOTM at CFC is windows only, but maybe its the BUFFY mod that is not Mac yet.

Would seem that either something is different on Bernout's end, or something is different on pm's end, since that first turn. With everyone else getting in, seems less likely to be at Bernout's end. If pm is the only Mac player in this game, maybe we want to have some other Mac BTSer to try to log in, see if it is some Mac vs. windows issue?

I like the parallel pitboss trial site idea! If pm can loggin to that, maybe we just move this game to that port?

That is indeed the case. I should know.

For ever turn since 4000 BC, I've had a "lost connection" message once. On the second time I'm always able to connect.

Re: Pitboss Succession --- Server Problems

I have a minor "problem" every time I login to the game. I always login successfully eventually, so I do not care much, just writing this as a feedback of some sort.

Always, I get to pick my greek civ, start running the game, and this window pops up saying that a pitSUC mod needs to be installed first (every time). I click on OK, and the game initializes the mod. Than civIV restarts, I have to pick my greeks again, but, ouch, the game wants me to insert "admin password". I "insert" an empty password, the game tells me that it is incorrect and kicks me to some LAN game menu. I click through to direct connection again, select my greek civ, insert the password and finally get admitted to play my turn.

I have to go through this every turn I want to make ...

Re: Pitboss Succession --- Server Problems

Kemal, do you use a mod shortcut? Check out step 3 in Bernout's post in the PitSuc Test Server thread.

Not sure about the admin password prompt, are you sure it's not just asking for your civ password?

Unrelated, but please remember to end your turn especially if you're the last player of the round...
