Re: PTBS BTS: The Terrible Twos - Signups
I have pmed Twinswinmh. Work is really hectic but at the moment I can carry on for a while at least and I am not sure if Snakefield can.
So maybe if he takes over the Zulus and I carry on as the Chinese?
I'll pm Snakefield and see what he says.

Re: PTBS BTS: The Terrible Twos - Signups
I'm going to be eliminated in 2 turns, so I'll go ahead with my farewell message.
This was my first multiplayer game, so I had lots of things to learn. Circumstances also made it a rather unfair game (I'm not going to start explaining why...), but I don't want to minimize the role of Elkad and Munro's skill in this outcome.
However, be assured that even though I didn't offer a very strong opposition to your invasion (what can I do against 2 unique units at the same time when I'm behind in techs...), I had devised a couple of pretty good plans that could very well have been successful despite being behind in techs, had you had your UU just a few turns later.
Anyway, it doesn't change much in the end, well played!

Hey Saga!
You never know when we need a sub so I'll be in touch when the time comes.
You can find the full game information in the first message of this topic plus there is an information sticky topic which contains all of the connection information when the time comes.

Re: PTBS BTS: The Terrible Twos - Signups
You did well considering what you were up against.
Couple suggestions. When a war starts, make sure you immediately run an anti-espionage mission. We got 2 revolts for reasonably cheap prices. Having to bombard would have bought you time to reinforce. Which would have at least made it more painful for us. Keep a defensive spy stationed in cities you need to defend. We had 3 spies in the first target for a long time. It actually took all 3 to get the revolt (failed at 77% twice), so if even one had died from anti-spy activities, it would have again forced us to siege. (I know you had at least a couple spies out, as we caught them, so some of this may be irrelevant)
The pre-war culture-war. No human is going to put up with that. I realize why you did it, but you could have backed off once you had clear superiority on the resource tiles. Had you not been flipping tiles 2 rings past that, you might have gotten more time.
Anyway, good game, and hopefully we can be nicer neighbors in some of our other shared ones.

Re: PTBS BTS: The Terrible Twos - Signups
Thanks for the espionage tip, I'll try to remember that.
As for the culture thing, I figured that I was in a rather good defensive position (if you don't take the UU in account), so I could afford to just annoy you and mean "c'mon, try me". Also, having such a big cultural advantage meant that if I wanted to strike against you, I had a big speed advantage and could take you by surprised (You were 2 turns away from getting a surprise attack on Bursa when it only had a single little warrior defending it. I knew I couldn't have kept it, but I would have razed it, you would have lost lots of income (religious capital). That's what my spies were for, making sure you couldn't reinforce until I could carry out the attack).
Even without the culture thing, you probably would have attacked me when the UU had kicked in, so I don't consider the cultural provocation as a strategical mistake.Last edited by hsoft; 03-12-2009 at 02:00 PM.

Re: PTBS BTS: The Terrible Twos - Signups
We did get a request to help out elsewhere shortly before we declared on you. Likely we would have declared on you anyway, but if relations were worse to our east (or if someone had offered a big enough bribe), being a good neighbor might have caused us to look away from you. You were the default target, the culture war just made it impossible to change our mind.
Probably the right decision this game. Had the map been slightly different (our shrine not exposed, your expansion not threatening to divide our empire, or maybe some old bad blood between one of us and another neighbor), it may not have been.
