Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Something odd today ... I played this morning, changed my name to Morte d'Vinci, and it did not register on civstats at all. I even went into the game a second time to verify that I had played, the game knew it, but civstats did not register the second entry either.
Anyone ever seen this before?

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Yeah, civstats seems to have been a bit flaky the last few days.
@Rusten: I didn't say I wanted you guys to duke it out among yourselves, I know well the amount of time needed to play out the end game. All I said was that I will consider you the winner of this game, and well-deserved it is.
@Exploit: FWIW, you're pretty much speaking my mind.
@Bernout: I was wondering how long it would take for someone to bring starting locations up...

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
I think one issue that come up that is impacted by whether alliances are more fluid or more stable is the degree to which you cooperate within the alliance. When alliances become de-facto teams, then one can sacrifice all for the alliance and specialize the civs. For example, I specialized for production and cash, to send troops and money to the partners.
If alliances are more shifting, then there will be less of this total commitment to the alliance, as one needs to keep one's own back covered, and be prepared for a different set of future relationships. In this setting, the alliances will be less efficient. Not saying one approach is better or worse as a game style, just pointing them out.
Now, if you end up with 4 total committers allied together, against four fluid alliance types (less totally committed), the efficiency from total commitment might overwhelm the less committed group ... which might make a total commitment approach the only way to survive. But then, what is a fair exit strategy to move from the initial alliance phase of the game to the round two survivors square-off (which might be two alliances duking it out, then a one on one finale?)
Exploit seems to have had experience in games (including Civ) where more transient agreements have been the norm. Maybe he can tell us the details of what that experience has been: are all deals time limited, and within what time range, typically? Are most deals bilateral, or are there large multilateral ones? etc. ...

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
I figured out the issue I was having ... civstats gags on the apostrophe in Morte d'Vinci ...
Which his how Civstats show Rusten losing a point on my recapture of my former Oracle capital, when I have not apparently even logged in ... and then I end turn before I have apparentloy logged it ...

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Congrats Rusten. Great Victory!
And thanks to everyone who played, both to allies for good cooperation and to enemies for good challenge.
And of course special thanks to Bernout for being such an excellent host
The large alliances made the game a bit static, but there were interesting moments none the less. Probably the fact that Rusten succesfully won the war against Niklas made our alliance to get the stronger foothold. Without Rusten's strong research rate me and millcc would have been dead a long time ago I think.

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Congratulations to Rusten on the win!
And a toast to the man who made it all possible ... Dreylin!!
Without his stubborn resistance, we would have been on millCC and DanD sooner, which might have turned the game.
Thanks to Exploit for picking up China, and for some fresh thinking (and a little debating ...

Just as a follow up question here, what was everyone's final thoughts on the NoScore mod? Is this something you'd like to see used again?
