Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
I liked the mod and would certainly play with it again. No demographics certainly made it more difficult to figure out how powerful competitors were. I had not realized how much I rely on the demographics page until I played in this game.
I did have a question about the mod though. If the game had gone to a score victory (an unlikely scenario but it has happened to me in one multiplayer game), would the score that we saw (i.e. the number of wonders) be the score that would have been used to determine the winner or would the original score formula have been used to determine the winner?

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
With tech trading the research was still a bit too fast. Also tech trading revealed very easily who is working with who. A mod were you couldn't see what techs the others have could be nice (+ tech trading off). You would be forced to find it out by spying or by the units the others have. Or by diplomacy, but then you could be told anything...

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
I like that idea a lot! And it fits in nicely with the whole point of the mod. Now the real kicker is whether or not it could be done in config files or needs a code change.
I don't remember what we discussed on this originally, but I assume we would just have used the score as is. The chance of it coming down to a score victory was close to 0 anyhow.

You can't see enemy techs without alphabet. I'm guessing it could be disabled there (in the alphabet tech).

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Why am I thinking that when tech trading is off, you don't see techs in the Fwhatever screen that is diplomatic, but maybe you do in the talk to me trading diplo screens? Or is tech trading off enough to hide the tech status?

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Thanks guys!

And a special thanks to Ronnie, Dandridge, Chris (millcc) and IanDC -- nicely played.
@dV: You can see techs as long as one of the two have alphabet (even with tech trading off).

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
It's easy to turn off viewing techs, presumably either in the Alphabet tech as suggested, or definitely in the Python files for the UI screens (like what I've done for demographics). No dll changes needed.
I definitely like the Noscore mod, and I was actually a bit disappointed to see that the SUC319b mod we use for Morgan's game didn't include that component. I'm not sure I'll ever sign up for another game that doesn't use it.

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
SUC319b was designed for Bernouts "training" game for newcomers, so the information was left in (no noscore features) for their benefit. It also has some other game balancing features (more discount for known techs, for one) IIRC.
Seems we might need a NoscoreGB if we want to fuse the game balancing features of SUC319b with Noscore.

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
We have a NoScoreV2 in a couple games on civfanatics. IIRC, it has the known tech bonus added in.

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Adding the hide researched techs feature to that NoScoreV2 mod would be nice. Maybe Niklas could do that for some future game?

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
We very nearly used the NoScore2 mod. Had I known the research bonus was included then we would have used it.
I can host a NoScoreGB game, if such a Mod was to be developed - hint, hint

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
If there was a NoScoreGB, how difficult would it be to add BAT4.2 or maybe even BUG.

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
What's NoScoreGB?
The NoScore changes are nothing major, it would be no harder to update BUG with them than it is to update the standard game (FLW).

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Along similar lines, Vulcan has his BTS Extended mod which already integrates BUG. While I'm in no rush to host another game I was leaning myself in that direction after integrating NoScore into it.
I believe the "GB" in NoScoreGB was coined by daV to refer to Game Balancing. It sounds like that mod would include the tech catch up changes from SUC3b along with new no tech viewing changes.

Re: Fog of War Game Resolution
Thats what i meant, thanks Bernout.
If it's easy enough to do, I think it would make a good mod.
